Roof of Africa Hotel

We loved the location and facilities. Especially having breakfast outside. The staff were mostly friendly, especially our waitress on the Friday evening. The beer was really good. We liked that there was an option to try rice porridge with some Chinese sauces at breakfast one morning. I loved the cabbage salad/sauerkraut in the evenings. And my ribs were quite tasty although a bit overcooked and dry in places.

We weren't given any information about checkout time or housekeeping or clear instructions on how to get to the restaurant when we arrived. This was mainly because they got us to our room quickly but I would have preferred being told these things so I would know what to expect. Also, small containers of real milk would be preferable in the rooms for tea in the morning instead of powdered coffee creamer. The staff were not very professional, especially during food service. They seemed more interested in standing around talking to each other loudly than helping the guests. A few times I had to ask to pass them when going to the buffet. The one even was even a bit rude one night but I realised later this was because we had come in through the wrong door because we were not given clear instructions at check-in and took the shorter path to the restaurant that made it look like we came from the street. Our food on the second evening when we ordered Ala carte took forever to come (we waited almost an hour) but that was fine buty ribs arrived overcooked and almost cold. The chips especially had cooled down completely. But we got the feeling this was because the waitress had forgotten to put our order in or forgot to pickup or something. The food needed some seasoning. We only ate buffet most of the weekend and almost all the food needed salt. The pork sausage at breakfast was particularly bland and the only thing we tasted that was truly aweful. The rest of the food just needed a little more salt.

Lovely home away from home hotel. I stayed in the deluxe room and it was definitely worth a little extra. I felt very comfortable here, and the pool and outdoor seating and all of the flowers and greenery was very nice. It was a comfortable and enjoyable space to be in after a long day of work. Good restaurants around the area too.

The restaurant at the hotel was nice, but could have had a few more vegetarian options.
