Hokitika Pioneer Hotel

The Pioneer Hotel does not supply breakfast. I bought my own breakfast items with me.The hotel has what they describe as a "Breakfast Nook" which supplies crockery cutlery, a fridge for guests to store private foods, drinks, milk etc and hot water tea and coffee. Any extras must be supplied by guests. Having started previously I knew what I needed to bring with me.

The eating area was within the bar area so conversations could be heard including the frequently used "F" word.

Oozing charm. Exceptionally clean. Warm and comfortable. John and Michelle (proprietors) very nice people and it was fun mingling with the patrons.

Everything was manageable but a tight squeeze in the room. Shower and toilet facilities were good but shared with other guests. Shared kitchenette facilities were very good with a modern fridge for the use of guests.

The room was smaller than we expected. No room to open luggage except on the bed. The blind was hung out from the window so anyone walking by could see right in to the room - I went and checked one evening - curtains would resolve this issue.

Rooms and facilities were clean and comfortable

Being a hotel there were no beverages or food available until after 3.30. Was only able to access the pool table due to the entrance unlocked while cleaning in process. Booking into a hotel would have thought lunch and bar facilities would have been available to guests . They would benefit from guest spend than driving business away to other establishments.

Good meals in the restaurant and bar nibbles.

Tolerating the crude language coming from the bar.
