"good value, true retro hotel"

8.0

The hotel is very well run, it's affordable, it's situated in a quiet part of Piriapolis and has a fabulous view over the bay. Some would say it's in dire need of refurbishment. Others would rave over its all original retro (roughly '70 - '80) interior. We thought it was charming!

"Good value hotel, clean and friendly staff"

8.0

We stayed in August, basically in the middle off low season when there are very few people here so we pretty much had the pool and jacuzzi to ourselves which we loved! The pool wasn´t super clean but this may be because it was low season so very few guests were using it. The rooms are fine and the breakfast is good. As other reviews have said, the staff have very little English but they do make a big effor to make sure you are okay. The rooms are kept really clean. The hotel as a whole is a little run down but great value and definitely worth a stay here.

"Great value, friendly staff, good breakfast buffet"

10.0

This was one of the better value hotels that we stayed in during our trip around Uruguay. Although the staff don't speak any English (and you can tell from the reviews that not many English speakers seem to stay here), they were happy to persevere with my limited Spanish. One lady, Anna I think, went to great lengths to try to explain various things to us. All the staff we encountered were very friendly. Most of the guests seemed to be Argentinian seniors taking advantage of the pre-season prices (we stayed in mid-December). The room was quite small as noted below but it was clean and had everything we needed - fridge (without the dreaded minibar so lots of room for your own food although it does say no food allowed in the rooms), good shower, hair dryer, comfortable bed and a view of the ocean. The hotel is very well-situated, just a few minutes walk to the town and the beach. There are only a few parking spaces outside the hotel on the road. When they're full, you'd have to park further up the hill but we had no trouble with this. I wished we'd had the hotel's buffet meal in the evening because the food at the restaurant we tried in town was awful. On our return, the other guests seemed to be tucking into a feast in the hotel's dining room. In the morning, we enjoyed a buffet breakfast and, compared to other hotels in Uruguay, we thought it was very good - a plentiful supply of food although rather too many cakes & sweet breads for our liking. The spacious dining room has a good outlook across the town and ocean. There's a heated indoor pool and jacuzzi if you like that kind of thing, we didn't use it but there were people doing so. There were computers available which we also didn't use as we had our on laptop and the WiFi worked well in the room. If we hadn't already booked and paid for an apartment for the following few nights, we would definitely have stayed here longer. I am happy to recommend this hotel to you.

"Ok for a weekend - Excellent attention"

6.0

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights last weekend (August 2008) and we had a very nice time there. The hotel is quite old, the rooms are small, however the bathrooms have been renewed and the people are really nice and willing to help. As we went in winter the swimming pool was heated, so we could use it, and it was clean and well maintained. Our bedroom had a nice view of the beach and the main street. Breakfast was included in the rate we paid, and it was ok. You could have Coffee, tea, orange juice, some toast, muffins, jam and cheese, not a great continental breakfast but all the food really good. The hotel is located in front of the beach and very near to the restaurants (just 2/ 3 bolcks away, so there is no need to rent a car) and to the harbour. I would recommend this hotel for a couple of days, It's ok for the rates you get charged.
