Ella Sunrise

The owner is lovely and she makes great breakfasts too. Dinner is available on request. Easy access and very peaceful. It's maybe a 15 minute walk to Ella centre. Once you reach the railway tracks if you cut along them it's a good short cut. Don't worry everyone walks along the tracks here. And it's also a very nice and pretty walk. As with anywhere outside of Ella centre you'll need your phone's torch if you're walking at night as there's not much street lighting. If you ask the owner she can show you a different short cut along the tracks to Ella rock too! There are two rooms. Downstairs is a nice budget room and upstairs is a very spacious family room with a great balcony.

Great value for money. Host helpful and excellent cook. Very good breakfast, and if you ask for dinner, you get fabulous Sri Lankan one. Nice chill on the terrace watching monkeys. Clean and quiet (of course, there is jungle noise).

Bit far from bars or restaurants.

The owner took care very well for everything, she was friendly, helping out when we had a question, organized transport, made us a wonderful breakfast. The place is really in the nature up the hill, but with a tuktuk its just 5 minutes away from the center, walkingdistance is about 20 minutes. For this cheap price, its nice service and friendliness from the host i am happy to give 10 points.

The room is a bit humid, but thats because its located in the jungle.

The food!! Best ever! :-) Quiet. Owner is very lovely lady! Depends on what you prefer. If close to the village it's 1.5km of walk so it can be a small problem for somebody. But, on the other hand, it's not that far from the watefall and 2 hours from Ella's rock.

The bottom room has no view.

Very well located homestay. The room is basically on top of the family home and entirely separate, a big bedroom with two double beds, a big bathroom and terrasse area around with garden views, which you got to yourself and where you will eat the delicious home-cooked traditional Sri Lanka breakfast and maybe also the like so dinner. The food is delicious, so apart from one night, where I went for a cooking class, I ate in for dinner too, and Sharuka, the mother of the family, should definitely do cooking classes too, because her food is just way tastier, than the food cooked in the best reviewed cooking class in Ella. Incredible value for the money in this place and the family are so sweet. Also Waterfall Road is a good location in Ella, because you are away from the business and noise of Ella center, but still are within walking distance to all the great attractions of this town, as for instance basically located right in the middle of Little Adam's Peak and Ella Rock. So much to see here, by the way, so I did not even feel, that my 10 days at Ella Sunrise were even a day too much, also thanks to the very sweet hosting family, and by the way also friendly neighbors.

For me it is not so much a dislike as a suggestion for improvement: All over Sri Lanka there is a problem with street dogs, also in this area. I love dogs though and it was a great experience for me too, that a handful of dogs came by every day saying hello and begging for leftovers. If you are afraid of dogs though, this place may not be for you though, but the owner could solve that pretty easily, by simply gate the terrasse, so the dogs can't get in to the terrasse, where you eat. These street dogs are however very friendly and no problem
