Within my first full day at the property, the hotel manager confronted me three separate times in a rude and inappropriate manner: 1. The first time was because my 4-year-old daughter had spilled some sugar on the tablecloth. When I said I would try to stop her from spilling again, he responded in an authoritarian way: “You won’t try, you have to make it happen.” Another guest, who was sitting at a nearby table, witnessed this exchange and later asked me what it was about because she also found his tone so inappropriate. 2. Later, he wrongly assumed my daughter had picked some flowers (in fact, it was another child). He gave me a heated “speech” about how it was my duty to keep my child away from the flowers, speaking in a hot-headed and disrespectful manner, then storming off without listening to anything I had to say about it. 3. In the evening, after I politely asked a waitress if I could use the hotel’s cutlery and sit at a table with a takeaway meal (and she kindly agreed), the manager once again confronted me rudely, saying words to the effect of: “We have other seating around the hotel for people to eat food that’s not from our restaurant, okay?.” Although I explained that a staff member had already permitted it, the interaction left me feeling singled out and unwelcome. Being spoken to in this way three times in one day left me feeling targeted, uncomfortable, and unable to relax. I was traveling with my young daughter, and instead of hospitality, I experienced repeated hostility. If the manager treats paying guests this way, I am also concerned about how he may be treating his staff. Importantly, another guest (who arrived the same day as me) had remarked on the manager’s strange and rude behavior before I had even experienced it myself. She then witnessed the first incident firsthand. This shows that my experience was not isolated, but part of a wider pattern.
