Sabai Beach Resort

Small resort at the quiet end of the beach. Just 2 beachfront and a further 2 set back "beachfront" chalets as the picture, and a further 4 ground floor rooms in a block behind. Nice small garden area through which you walk 20m to the beach of very fine sand. There's a nice beach bar serving a limited range of food and drinks. Enough shaded sun beds for the residents. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance of the resort, perhaps 400m. These include an excellent vegan restaurant ,"Pak Pak", with especially good breakfast dishes.

Sand flies. Beware, these things live in the sand and too small to see. You are unaware that you are bitten, the reaction on the skin only erupts after some time, and can remain itchy for weeks. Take precautions: read about how to manage the problem before visiting Koh Mak.

Beautiful view from the seaside cottages. - Beach and sea ideal for families with small children. - Sand perfect for building sandcastles. Beach loungers - IMHO the best and the quiest part of the island, but at the same time close access to restaurants, grocery store, massage spa, pharmacy and other services.

I wish the resort could offer more breakfast options. Keep the finger crossed for that!

Beautiful location, friendly staff

Hard bed

The location was amazing. The bed was very comfortable and the Aircon was perfect.

Our toilet bin not being emptied.... Yes we should've asked but it should be a given due to the toilet paper situation. Also there should be a mirror and a socket together to be able to dry hair.

Beachfront villa has clear view of sea and beach. Mosquito nets on windows in good working order. Walking distance to restaurants.

Shower sprays water everywhere in bathroom & stays wet. Toilet blocks every day. There is a plunger left next to the toilet which has to be used daily. Sandflies despite daily raking of beach area and using sunbeds provided by the resort. Bathroom could be updated.

Sandie, the owner, is a gem. She was welcoming, helpful, and takes pride in her place. I came back late on my first night there and she and a friend were dancing to French music on the beach. They saw me, welcomed me, and danced with me. I am not a good dancer under the best of conditions and had just blown out my knee in Bangkok, but they couldn't care less. They were celebrating a friend who was leaving the next day. Both ladies were really amazing. Koh Mak is a magical place where things like this just see to happen. I had great conversations and made deep connections with a number of people there from all over the world in my short, four night stay. The resort is family friendly and also great for solo travelers. There is happy hour on the beach every night along with the other bars and restaurants on that stretch of the coast. People gather nightly to have a drink and watch the spectacular sunsets. The beach pristine with a stunning view. I rode to fourteen beaches all along the coast on a scooter one day and found none as nice as that at Sabai Beach Resort. Once the sun sets and families go to bed, there are plenty of places within a few minutes walk or scoot to stay up late and eat and drink late into the night if you are so inclined. Most places close around ten, but if you ask around you'll find places like The Art House Bar, which has a chill vibe and often has live music, and Koh Mak Sports Bar, which is teeming with interesting travelers and transplants from across the globe. I will be returning, possibly long term. Koh Mak called to me and I fell in love with it. Sabai Beach Resort was a catalyst for that wanderlust romance. Merci, Sandie. I had to leave.

The location, the vast sandy beach , the sunsets and happy hour. Close to street food, restaurants, massage and convenient stores. The villa was perfect with daisies on the towels, big comfy bed and tucked in the trees like a jungle. I cried with joy when the taxi dropped me off.

Breakfast was a bit expensive.
