Hotel Roca Mar

The location was amazing

We had a sea view room but it was hard to see the sea as the balcony was very closed in.

Hotel Roco Mar has many branches in the same area so they infact gave me a transfer to Hotel Orchids, the room was outstanding for the price. Amazing sea view room with facilities you can imagine in your hotel room. The staff were very organised and very helpful. Excellent Team! Thank you once again for this stay, it was pleasant and beautiful. Tip: Make sure you rent a car, it will come handy. The hotel has plenty of parking space too.

a bit far from Funchal, but doesn’t make a difference. There are plenty of Taxi available, To be honest there are no cons here.

EVERY member of staff was polite and friendly, even the non-public facing ones. The view and location was amazing. Facilities were clean and modern. Air con worked the whole time and had a good eco feature that switched it off when the balcony door was open to save energy.

The buffet food was pleasant and fresh, but just lacking a spark. The main lift sometimes had a mind of its own and went to other floors ignoring ours despite having the button pressed.

More things were good: excellent location, delicious breakfast, spacious room, large comfy beds, outdoor / indoor pools, friendly staff, cleaning staff do a great job, supermarkets and restaurants nearby

Not much has changed since the hotel was built.. it reminds me of my old kid room at my parents' house; to be more precise: the room, furniture and bathroom seem a little shabby and need reconstruction, TV screen is smaller than my laptop, 4 TV channels available ONLY, fridge keeps making strange sounds, there is no one at reception (for check-in you have to walk to the next door hotel), street parking can be problematic in the evening.

Really clean, good breakfast, staff really nice.

Property bit dated, pools quite small. Sea access wasn't open due to the weather.

Comfortable though smallish room with sea view. Elaborate buffet breakfast. Short walk to a couple of decent restaurants and shop. Good location between Funchal and the airport.

TV in the room didn't work, took long to get fixed and then only had Portuguese and German speaking channels. Overall, the atmosphere is one of industrial mass-tourism; a lot of concrete, a big impersonal breakfast/dining hall. TV being watched in the next door room was loud and clear in mine. Of three similarly-priced hotels I stayed in, this was the least impressive.
