St. Norbert Hotel

They refunded my money for the first night as my plane was late and I could not arrive in time for check in. It is walking distance to St. Norbert Long Term Care facility, were I was visiting my elderly father. There is no breakfast. There is free coffee served in the diner, which is very strong, served by a very nice woman. There was a bed, bathroom, microwave, small fridge and desk with chair. (Note: chair not tall enough to wedge under door handle of door leading directly to bar parking lot, which would have afforded a small amount of security). That's all I can say positively about this facility. Unless you like to drink alcohol, gamble, and have no concerns for personal safety, this is not the facility for you.

It is a motel, not a hotel. There is a huge difference. As a single woman traveling alone, I did NOT feel SAFE. Check-in involves entering the bar, walking through the entire room to the bar to talk to a hostess. Not something you want to do at night when all the patrons are drinking. The bar is open 16 hours a day, from 10am - 2am. My room was the farthest from the main road, and also the farthest from the bar. There were 2 doors into my room, one which opened directly onto the parking lot for the bar. The other opened into a long corridor which led directly to the bar. Both doors felt flimsy. Cigarette smoke was entering the room from the corridor. The curtains were sheer, so I felt exposed at night. I was afraid to turn on the lights or tv at night, in case it attracted unwelcomed attention. There are 2 blankets, one I used to cover the sheer curtains, the other was used to block the smoke from the bar entering under the door. The bar is packed Thursday and Friday night with a lot of men. It is THE PLACE in town to drink and gamble. There was even a semi parked in the parking lot overnight. I paid for 2 nights, and left after the first night without inquiring to see if I could get a refund.
