Skelwith Bridge Hotel

Location is great. Staff are fabulous and it’s always a favourite when walking in the area.

Nice location

Was a bit dated

The Hotel was nice as was the attached bar. We didn't spend a lot of time there to give a full review. Rooms were clean and well presented. The bed was unexpectedly comfortable. There was a lovely smart TV in the room. Breakfast was fine, quick and friendly service, and they even gave us a sausage for the dog.

There was the most annoying floorboard in the bathroom, it was so loud I was worried we would disturb the room next door. The lighting in the room and mirror placement made it difficult to apply make up in the right light when the bathroom was in use. The room we had breakfast in didn't allow dogs in, which is fine, but there wasn't an alternative (other than the benches outdoors, but it was cold and raining). We left our dog in the room which he wasn't happy with (first time away from home) and so it would have been nice to have an option to bring him. Yes we could have taken it in turns to stay with him, so there was a way around it, but an alternative would have been helping, especially with it being a dog friendly hotel.

We were familiar with this hotel as we used to have a static on Skelwith Fold. Had a drink in the Talbot Bar many times. Love the location with access to many local places. Free car parking and on a bus route if needed. Nice staff at check in and in the dining room. Fabulous breakfast. Big comfy bed. Bath sheets not towels a nice touch.

Minor negative was no info in the room eg WiFi code, local places of interest, example menus. Also the hotel bar shuts before 10pm so no nightcap for us 🙁

Breakfast and dinner

I'm afraid I didn't realise you had to get TWO buses to the hotel. I probably wouldn't have booked the hotel otherwise. So the first bus driver told us we would have to get another bus from Ambleside to the hotel.We got a taxi instead and the next day too. Not convenient for the Coast to Coast.
