Overall, this was a bad experience. I was traveling with my wife for a family function and had booked this hotel a few days in advance via Booking.com. I had even called the hotel personally to confirm the reservation, expecting a smooth and hassle-free stay. Upon arrival, the reception staff was neither welcoming nor outright rude—just indifferent. After collecting ID proofs from both of us and taking a payment of ₹2054, we were handed the key to Room #303. The moment we opened the door, we were hit with a strong, suffocating smell of cigarettes. It was not mild or tolerable—it felt like the room had been used as a smoking lounge for hours. We couldn’t stand inside for even a minute. We immediately returned to the reception and explained the situation. The staff took the key back, called someone, and casually instructed them to spray room freshener—as if masking the problem with a quick spray would magically fix years of neglect. It was quite shocking how casually this was handled. I clearly told him we did not want that room. Without any resistance, he handed us the key to Room #201. Unfortunately, Room #201 was no different. The same stale, suffocating cigarette smell lingered in the air. By this point, my wife—already exhausted after a 5-hour drive—was fed up. She suggested we manage since we would be out most of the time for the function and only needed the room for a few hours of sleep. Initially, I agreed. But within five minutes, it became unbearable for me. The smell was overwhelming and unacceptable. I immediately booked another room at Manuelson’s Malabar Palace for around ₹4000 and told my wife we were leaving. We returned the key at reception and collected our ID copies. When I asked about a refund, I was bluntly told there would be none. At that point, we were too tired to argue and chose to leave. Learnings: - This hotel is not suitable for families.
