The Silverton Hotel

Location in central Silverton in iconic hotel

Over priced for basic accommodation. Food quality average. Poor Staff attitude to customer service. In the evening we had a meal and booked a table and was told we had to eat at 5.30 to get us done and out of the way in case of other patrons. When we arrived to sit at our table near the fire a staff member told us she usually sat there! In the morning for breakfast the table at the fireplace was occupied by the same staff member who did not move for us or acknowledge us at all.

We received a warm welcome when we checked in - not just by Kelly, but also as a result of the fireplace near the bar that made everything cosy. The room was amazing - very clean and with all the necessities. The shower had a great pressure and the water remained hot for several showers. The hotel is at the back of the pub, but very secure. We felt safe the whole time we were there. On our first morning we were lucky enough to meet the owner of the Hotel, Patsy, feeding her donkeys out the front. Patsy proudly told us two of the donkeys appear on the front of the Broken Hill tourist brochure. I almost felt we needed to ask for their autographs. :-). We had dinner from the hotel both nights, and the meals were great.

We nearly got caught out with dinner on the second night. Popping in after 7pm to order a meal to take back to the room, we were told the kitchen may have already closed. Fortunately the chef was able to prepare something for us. It was completely understandable that with no patrons, the kitchen (and bar) would close early … after all no need to pay staff to sit around and twiddle their thumbs - but just be aware of this if you are heading there … make sure you book for the restaurant, or get there a bit earlier when times are quiet.

Was a little expensive but very comfortable indeed 🙂
