Watergate Resort Unawatuna

I really loved the location of the hotel, it was very convenient for getting to Galle, nearby restaurants, and the beach. We walked most of the time, which was perfect. The room facilities and cleanliness were excellent; everything was modern, spotless, and offered a beautiful ocean view. The swimming pool was also a highlight, as it was so refreshing to cool off after a day at the beach. Ashen, the PR, was very helpful in arranging taxis and recommending things to do in Sri Lanka. While he sometimes sent few too many messages, and he was a little too pushy with what he wanted to offer us, he was always willing to assist, and we appreciated his support. The restaurant staff were also kind and attentive, and having the option to dine in at the hotel was very convenient.

On the other hand, there were a couple of areas that could be improved. One staff member at the front desk came across as quite rude when explaining the hotel rules, she spoke to us as if we were young spring breakers, which felt unnecessary given we were simply there for a relaxing holiday (as we work in hospitality ourselves) and the rule signs are at the front desk, even in the room. Additionally, I was accidentally charged twice on my card, though Ashen quickly resolved the issue. Since we were the only guests during most of our five-night stay, it sometimes felt a little uncomfortable being watched so closely by staff at the pool or in the lobby, though I understand they may have just been trying to ensure we were well looked after. I imagine this would feel different during high season when there are more guests. Overall, it is a beautiful hotel and we did enjoy our stay.

Only the room and the view, nothing else

There were no elevators/lifts, and the room was on the second floor, and breakfast was at 4th floor. The staff was not helpful. I have knee issues, which are now worse after climbing the stairs.

Il Resort è davvero bello, tenuto bene, curato e pulito. La nostra camera vista mare era molto bella. Lo staff molto gentile, e la colazione inglese che abbiamo scelto era buona e abbondante. Mi è piaciuta molto la piscina da dove si possono vedere i tramonti, se il cielo lo permette. Nelle vicinanze puoi visitare la spiaggia delle tartarughe e Jungle beach e Unawatuna beach dove ci sono molto ristoranti. Anche Galle è vicina.

This property has an amazing view of the beach. Would recommend if you are looking for a calmer experience.

What a disappointment and what an amazing stay it could have been :-( The place is absolutely gorgeous, with the pool , the sea and the rocks and is exactly how I saw it on one of the instagram reels. However, this place feels unsafe, is spooky and doesn't have the right vibes Why the 1 star rating ? - No hot water and bathroom faucets were leaking. I was staying with my family, and we requested for the rooms to be changed, as we were paying 60000 lankan rupees and the least you can expect is hot water and clean bathroom - The manager refused to acknowledge that hot water is not coming and then finally when he did he said he will fix it in 30 mins . However, despite our multiple attempts we did not get the issue fixed and next day manager was just running away from us - We were also the only family staying in this hotel, can you imagine? they have 30+ rooms and no one else apart from us, it felt really unsafe, I would recommend you stay in the hotel adjacent to this place which has same view, costs a little less and has more people. We really did not like the vibe of such big hotel and no people at all - Also, it could just be me , they had around 8 to 10 outsiders mostly local people coming in to the hotel and a table was arranged next to the pool and they were drinking till late night . This is not how properties behave If you are reading this review and you are travelling with your family please avoid this place, for the price book the hotel adjacent or any other nearby hotels. This place feels unsafe, is spooky and doesn't have the right vibes To the management : You have an amazing property, please change the manager (mid age man with curly hair) and improve the room conditions. This place has lots of potential. The manager was also roaming around brushing his tooth near the pool. This is absolutely unprofessional. One plus point was the lady at the front desk arrange the breakfast for us in our rooms and apologised on behalf of the manager

The only bright side of this property is menager Ashen lakmal

Internet is really bad

We had a great room, facilities were good.
