"Disappointing"

4.0

Set away from the main road up a driveway leading you to this large U.S style motel. Small clean rooms with cracked floor tiles, comfortable beds and good wifi - when the confusing password was explained: it's a lower case L not a capital I. The sunrise across the bay from the bedroom window was superb. The guy at reception helped with my enquiries of how to escape northwards. The city itself is instantly forgettable: almost all the port area is walled off - you only get some quiet if you head for the southern tip and see the beached freighter - otherwise it's the usual Mauritanian city-scape of chemist shops, stalls selling iphone chargers & shops selling black sandles.

My feeling was that the young man in reception was working under duress judging by the sheer look of misery etched upon his face while the security man at the front door must have been stuffed as he hardly moved from his seat all evening. The shower facility was broken but it wasn't an issue as the water pressure was so weak that it took an hour to fill the bath. The bedroom was full of mosquitos - I can hardly blame them as they were probably trying to take shelter from the constant wind. Credit card payment machine didn't work. One of the bedside light fittings didn't work - being half ripped out of the wall socket might have been an explanation. Once again with Mauritania (not the fault of the hotel) the location of the hotel on the booking.com website was incorrect !

"Scammers"

1.0

Nothing

The guy at the reception first tried to scam me with the money change. They wanted to change me 200€ in local value at the price of 150€. Then with the price of cigarettes. Really bad experience. Last but not least they wanted to charge me more making me pay with an exaggerated amount of the local money (the price was in euro). Obviously it was not possible to pay with credit card. When I refuse they wanted to keep my passport. Then I just payed in euro because I was lucky I had the right amount, but if not they surely would have charged me more with giving me the rest in the local value.

What a dump. Breakfast was a joke. Or maybe this is high-class in Mauritania

"Poor"

3.0

Room was big

BED BUGS in the room. I asked to change and they gave a new room. They seemed unsurprised, so I presume this is a regular occirrnce. They were not apologetic at all. We asked for help finding and booking the bus for Nouakchott - staff were very unhelpful and vague. We asked for help changing money, and the staff were also very unhelpful and vague. Considering the room is relatively expensive by Mauritania standards, I expected much better.

The location is nice 5 min walk to the airport if you're flying Nice restaurant is just across the street Nearest ATM,s are about a 10 min walk away The wi fi works and speed is ok The hot water worked too Rooms are ok not the newest but don't expect to much it's Mauritania

On booking they only offer there deluxe room but they also have much cheaper rooms without AC for 13$ less than on booking that's a big difference and the only difference between the 35$ room and the 17$ room is the AC and a mini fridge definitely not worth 13 $ more my advice just walk in without reservation it's much cheaper The staff was ok not very helpful because English is a big problem only 1 guy could speak English Alle the others next to none

"Good place to stay with helpful staff"

10.0

The hotel was very easy to find, The reception staff very friendley, There was a hick up with the card machine having a bad connection. My card was accidentally charged twice but the manager refunded the overcharge. The price I paid was less than that on Booking.com maybe due to exchange rates. Several restaurants nearby within 5 minutes walk, same for banks although not all were working. The manager ran me in his car to catch transport to Morocco very helpful as were all the staff. Hotel was probably built 30 years ago and some of its fittngs are worn. That said they all work, my room had plenty of hot water, aircon and a bath. Breakfast was good, no complaints.

Nothing wrong with the Hotel. The town itself has little to interest visitors and is not clean, It is a working port with a lot of fish processing plants so there is a smell of fish in the air. Bewary of cars at night that drive with no linghts and many of the side streets do not have any lighting. That said I felt perfectly safe where ever I went.

A good location, close to a very good restaurant, and not far from the Port Artisanal if you want to see the great Mauritanian fishing fleet of pirogues. The staff here are friendly and very helpful.
