The Ellison Inn & Lounge

I had looked for a decently affordable hotel near Newport State Park for a while before coming across this listing. Based on not having to pay an incredible amount of money for the location alone, I would rate the hotel well, although in a different location you'd probably expect a little more for the price. The person working the font desk, I believe her name is Rochelle, was friendly and helpful. The room was plenty big and very clean. There was always water in the hot water maker in the front area for tea, and the room had an extra blanket, which is something most hotels don't provide anymore unless you ask for some reason.

There was no microwave in the hotel room, but I only had to wait in line to use the one in the lobby once during my stay, so it wasn't a big deal. The power went out one morning, I'm not sure if that's an Ellison Bay issue or the hotel's wiring. It smelled a bit damp in the room and the king-size bed had such deep indentations on both sides from people sleeping in it side-by-side that you couldn't balance in the narrow, raised part in the middle to sleep, you had to roll into one of the pits. That was an odd sensation.

Location overlooks and has access to Ellison Bay. There is a nice, innovative playground and a cozy beach - also tennis courts and a gazebo for picnic.

Beds were VERY comfortable. The room temperature was perfectly controlled with the new air conditioner. Location was excellent and the staff were friendly.

The check-in process took a long time and there was NO shampoo provided for the shower.

The owners are marvelous! Welcoming, friendly, excellent aesthetics and commitment to keeping the integrity of the building and history! Super "homie"

Can't think of a thing I didn't like! They even had my personal favorite of peppermints at their reception/ office desk.

The owners were wonderful! The bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless! We loved that the decor was authentic to the hotel’s time period and we felt like we were stepping back in time! We will definitely go back when visiting Door County in the future!

The staff were nice. The adjacent German restaurant is great.

The room smelled very strongly of mildew/mold. It was awful. If it hadn't been New Year's Eve and all of the other hotels were full, I would have left. It was winter so opening the windows was not an option. The seats of the chairs were so stained that I would not sit on them - it looked like someone had wet their pants on them.
