Unique stay in these beautiful wooden cabins immersed in the jungle. They all face a calm river and you can hear all the jungle sounds, which was delightful. The cabins are spacious and had all the amenities, the beds were large and comfortable. We also loved the outdoor shower and bathroom! Our hosts were extremely kind, welcoming and helpful, and they orchestrated our safari perfectly straight from the hotel. Thanks for a memorable experience!

We stayed in one of the most beautiful cabanas of our trip to Sri Lanka, with a view over a small river full of birds and little animals. It was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. The bed was comfortable, and there was a lovely little terrace where we enjoyed our coffee, tea, and welcome drink. We also had both dinner and breakfast there — both meals were superb. The service was very good overall.

We booked the safari with this property and we did experience some communication issues during the safari, as the driver didn’t speak English very well.

Excellent hosts who went out of their way to look after you and bonus points for amazing safari experience! Close to national park and rooms are spacious and well kept.

Could not be happier with our stay at Wild Lake Side!!!! Run by such a beautiful couple who make you feel right at home. The cabins are gorgeous and immaculately clean. Being able to watch the turtles, birds and even little crocodiles from the balcony was truly a treat and made you really feel immersed in nature. The food was also a highlight for us - best Kottu we had on our entire trip! We only stayed 2 nights as we were in Udawalawe for a safari but would have easily stayed longer. We absolutely will stay here again if we find ourselves in Udawalawe again in the future!

Not a negative but important to remember you will need to pay in cash (we nearly forgot about this!) :)

We had a lovely stay overall, with several highlights and a few concerns. What we liked: - The additionally booked safari was excellent — our guide was knowledgeable and really made the experience memorable. - Spacious rooms gave us plenty of comfort during our stay. - The hosts were very friendly, helpful, and solution-oriented — always available if we needed something. - The property is in a peaceful, nature-based area with kind and welcoming neighbors. - We appreciated that breakfast, lunch, and dinner were available on-site — they happily prepared something for us whenever we didn’t feel like going out. What could be improved: - Unfortunately, we found bed bugs in our first room. When we raised the issue, we didn’t feel it was fully understood at first. The hosts offered to clean the room, which isn't sufficient in the case of bed bugs. We had to insist that we wouldn’t stay in that room a second night, and only then were we given a different room. While we’re grateful for the room change, we’re not confident that the original room was treated properly, so we’re concerned future guests might face the same issue. - The second room we were moved to had a broken air conditioner, but to their credit, it was repaired the same day, and everything was fine for the night. All in all, the hospitality and location were excellent, but we hope they take the bed bug issue seriously for the comfort and health of future guests.

Beautiful and very well kept place near the reserve. We stayed only one night and was met with a traditional meal. Early next morning we had a 4 hour excursion that was arranged by the hotel. Great, clean and friendly if you want to visit Udawalawe nature reserve.

The room and the balcony were good. The bathroom with the outside view was nice. Dinner was fine, breakfast was good. The staff was friendly overall.

It felt a bit rushed and impersonal. The staff was very direct and disturbed us while we were dining. We would've rather talked about our plans after dinner. The safari driver fell asleep while on safari. He was nice though and we saw alot of elephants. It felt like he only went to places he saw others go, never really found his own spot, like we were in a safari train on rails.

Our stay at Wild Lake Side was simply exceptional. Firstly, pre arrival communication was spot-on. My partner and I have travelled to around 45 countries between us and stayed in too many hotels and guesthouses to remember. We both agree that Wild Lake Side is amongst the best... if not the very best. The accommodation was stunning, perfectly clean, with excellent air conditioning, a good bathroom, and a very comfortable bed. However, the star attraction was the spacious balcony with a private view of the river, palm trees, etc., and wildlife. We arranged a safari, which was of very high quality and great value. Our guide/driver was passionate, engaging, and knowledgeable. We had lunch, an evening meal, and breakfast, all of which were freshly cooked 'real' Sri Lankan food. Nothing was too much trouble – a taxi was arranged for our next destination, and we both left with very heavy hearts. We would not hesitate to return for a longer stay and, without a doubt if you want accommodation in Udawalawe you will not find better. The place is very beautiful and the houses are very cozy. The outdoor bathroom was also a nice experience.
