Location and check-in: Bulevard Hotel was easy to find. Management can be reached by WhatsApp, so that even if reception was not manned (e.g. at night) they were still reachable. I walked 900 metres from bus station/ train station on relatively flat ground. Check-in was smooth. English was spoken, which was good. There was no lift, but my room was only one floor up. Sighisoara is a small town and there are not many restaurants to choose from. However, there were several within five minutes’ walk of the hotel. Almost directly opposite the hotel was a supermarket. The room: The room was a bit tight at certain parts, made worse by the bulky furniture. The room would benefit from a complete redesign with lighter and more contemporary fixtures and furnishings. Lighting was good. Wifi was good. Heating was good. Electrical sockets were sufficient, and available on both sides of the bed. There was a small desk (with a heavy and bulky chair) but there was no desk lamp. There was a mini-fridge and a mini-safe. There was a coffee machine with only two capsules provided (it looked like there should have been four, but after the last customer checked out, it was not restocked). There was no kettle. Nor were there teabags, so if one was not a coffee drinker, hard luck! In any case, only espresso-sized cups were provided, which was very limiting. The room was quiet. The bed was comfortable. There was daily housekeeping, but still they did not restock the coffee capsules. The bathroom: The bathroom was, like the bedroom, a rather tight space. The toilet commode was squeezed into a very narrow area. Hot water came through quickly. Water pressure good. Drainage was good. The door of the shower stall did not seal properly; water leaked a bit to the rest of the bathroom, but it was not a serious matter.

No major problems. Three issues: although each was not quite serious, they added up. 1. The room and bathroom were rather cramped spaces; 2. the lack of a kettle; 3. substandard housekeeping. This hotel claimed to be four-star. It tried to be so by offering extra toiletries and the coffee machine, but these did not compensate for not getting the 3-star level basics right (e.g. a kettle, and better space layout). Out of eleven hotels I stayed in during this trip, Bulevard was sort of average. There were good points, but also some shortcomings. Breakfast: I did not include breakfast in my booking, so I cannot say what would have been served. However, I was advised that I could still take breakfast at the restaurant with separate payment. I did that on one morning but was disappointed. The server said only eggs and muesli were available. They didn’t even have any kind of bread which left me at a loss for words. I ordered muesli; it was expensive. The next day, I went across the street to the supermarket instead. That said, I do not know whether the restaurant came under the same management as the hotel although it was in the same building.

There was no internet access the entire stay. The bed was lumpy with springs poking out. The bathrooms were disgusting, toilets stunk of urine, I didn't even have a shower. 3 flights of stairs to climb up. Not sure that the linen was actually fresh, the pillow smelt strange. Heating was not good it was freezing all night. Stay elsewhere!!!
