Tatacoa Star Eco Hotel

Super friendly staff, they were really welcoming and booked us a private tuk tuk for a tour of the desert. Breakfast was basic but delicious - scrambled eggs with tomato and onion was lovely! Nice terraced area, comfy beds and good aircon. Great location for restaurants in the town/access to the desert. Also super quiet!

A little difficult to get to/from as we arrived in the dark so had to get a taxi from Neiva. On the way back we left on a Sunday so we had to wait a bit for the bus to be full before leaving for Neiva! No problem though as we weren’t in a rush.

Nice decorated boutique-like place with excellent AC in the rooms. This is the advantage over h(m)otels in the desert proper away from town because those do not have AC. The attendants were very helpful getting us a knowledgeable guide who drove us from Neiva airport and back 4 days later. They are really nice people.

The breakfast was not gourmet: 2 eggs, cut-up fruit, coffee and a mini toast. All 3 nights we were serenaded by stray barking dogs. These issues are not exclusive of this hotel. They are a problem in Villavieja; with the exception of mojarra frita, the food in any restaurant in town is terrible.

The hotel is well located, the rooms are clean and well equipped with air conditioning.

They didn't want to charge the payment through booking, also they charged us VAT, when no other hotel did. They also did not want to give us an invoice. They offered us a tour, we asked twice for the price and I asked an invoice to which they replied that it was not necessary and when we had to pay they wanted more money.

Great location to go to the Tatacoa Desert.

The staff is available for fulfilling any doubts. They organize many tours and good prices. The arquitecture is very nice and the hotel is clean

The hotel was very sweet - the building looks great, definitely the coolest looking in Villa Vieje. The staff were really friendly, didn't speak any English but communication was easy enough. The room was comfortable and the AC was lovely to have. The location was great although the town is so small there aren't really any bad locations! Breakfast was basic but nice to have. Having water/drinks available to buy was useful.

A bit more information about tours to the desert that they could offer - we got on one last minute but had to ask. If they had a sheet with which tours are available it would be better for guests and for them!
