Clean and comfortable room with a hammock on the balcony so you can look at the jungle which you read a book. The place is right at the end of town so you can swim in clean refreshing water as it's upstream from the centre of town. Food and juices are reasonably priced and delicious. Everyone working there is super helpful and friendly. We arranged a car back to Medan with them for 700k which seems to be the standard price. They took our bags by moto to the car, which was great.

The netting surrounding the four poster bed didn't actually close up. Would've preferred a mosquito net so we didn't get bitten at night.

We are a family of three, travelling with our 16 year old son. An absolutely wonderful place to stay and organise all aspects of your stay in Bukit Lawang. Sam’s Bungalows took care of us from the moment we made our booking until the end of our stay. They can organise all trips and treks for you in advance, arrange all transportation, including airport pickup to onward travel. Sam, and his staff, are so friendly and welcoming and really care that you have a great stay - their personal touch to everything really shows. Our room was very comfortable and stylish, clean linen and towels, modern bathroom and a balcony, with hammock, offering a lovely view of the river and valley. The location is towards the end of the village, which is slightly quieter, but a very short walk to the other restaurants and shops. Food in the restaurant was excellent and good value. I can highly recommend letting Sam organise your jungle trek. He has his own guides, we went with Andre who made the trek extremely enjoyable and could answer all your questions. Special mention to the cook who made a stunning meal at the jungle camp. He can also organise the trip to the elephant sanctuary, including driver, and all can be organised in advance via email. We have travelled extensively and would 100% recommend Sam’s Bungalows - if we re- visit Bukit Lawang we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Very nice bungalows near the river where you can swimm! They organised a super 4 days Jungle Trek for our family with a really fantastic guide (Ponidi). He was just super nice with our kids, and very careful during the trek.

We did spend two nights at Sam‘s Bungalows and it was just amazing. Very friendly stuff, very new and luxurious rooms with hot water and a restaurant which is serving delicious breakfast and dinner. Also we recommend as a highlight the one day jungle tracking tour - have seen 15! Orang Utans and many further animals.

A great place to stay. Rooms were clean and beds very comfy. We booked several hikes, a massage, and ate all our meals here during our visit to Bukit Lawang. The hikes will remain some of our very best memories ever. The staff, both within the guesthouse, and our hiking guides, and our driver to and from Medan were all wonderful. I have wanted to see the Orangutans for some years, and this trip fulfilled that for me. As a bonus we got to see the world’s largest flower, as it happened to bloom while we were there. Loved the monkey parade past our balcony each day. Sam runs an excellent business and manages a great team.

I will tell you what to do: 1. Learn English 2. Buy flight tickets 3. Buy some rupees 'Uncle Sam' takes care of everything else (airport transportation, food, drinks, trekking, traveling in the forest... whatever comes to your mind). Opening your window curtains and seeing the Rainforest and the river... I'll be honest, I didn't expect this much. It was an incredible experience for me.
