"Unique stay that a city dweller should experience."

8.0

Rustic, off the grid and not your usual hotel. But definitely felt like Van and Russell had put in effort to make us feel at home and comfortable. I also loved the idea of staying next to a river bank or lake. And what a cool fire place to keep us warm.

A little dark especially at the cooking area and in the toilet.

"Comfortable quirky and scenic"

10.0

Loved the decor, bath and the fire. The cake and eggs on arrival were a special touch. Van also gave us fresh tomatoes and chillies. Russells local knowledge led us to the Mystery Creek cave.

"A great peaceful location and nice base to explore the south"

Peaceful and great views of the river. Thoughtful hosts set up a roaring fire to start and made homemade teacake with berries.

"The Oyster Shack is a fabulous retreat"

10.0

Off the tourist track, but close to bushwalks, the caves and sightseeing. It was so quiet. And a walk through the property down to the cove with a myriad of oysters was fabulous. The shack had everything needed. And my hosts were so generous with gifts of fresh eggs, plums, chilli and more. Highly recommended. Would definitely stay here again.

The remoteness, the views and sun and moonrises. The location is great base for the South Coast track

The tranquility, the rustic ambience of the wood cabin, and the magnificent views of the river from our windows and the deck. Welcoming hosts, the delicious cake and eggs on our arrival, and the plums on our departure. The cute padimelons coming out to say hello at dawn and dusk.

There was nothing to dislike.

"Really nice way to finish our holiday in Tasmania"

9.0

Really nice way to finish our holiday in Tasmania. Somewhat remote location South of Hobart amongst the trees and coastline. Really close to the Hastings caves. Friendly staff and quaint cottage overlooking some lovely scenery.

No real issues. The track to the cottage needs to be cleared of scrubs etc a little bit better. The bathroom has steps down and getting into the bath would be an issue for the elderly. Note no TV which is a blessing. Enjoy the wilderness.

"The host was very pleasant when I got lost and the delightful cake was a lovely thought, but over all It was not comfort"

4.0

The view was lovely.

Very hard to locate no donate, also very cold with no way to get warm except for fire that provided very little warmth.

Tucked away off the beaten path, this little shack turned out to be far more charming than what it looks like on the outside. At first glance, it looks simple but that’s exactly where its character shines. Inside, we found a cozy, unpretentious space that felt instantly welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxed and genuine, the kind of place where you can unwind without worrying about formality. Whether it was the warm lighting, the rustic wooden details, the fireplace, or the paintings on the ledge, the shack had a vibe that made it easy to linger. Service was friendly and down-to-earth, matching the laid-back setting. Nothing fancy, just honest hospitality. And while the offerings were straightforward, they were surprisingly satisfying. We were welcomed with a freshly baked blueberry loaf, fresh eggs and of course as the name suggests, fresh oysters just walking distance from the shack. Thank you Russell and family for sharing your little slice of paradise with us and we hope to see you guys again soon !
