Even has its own wildlife. When we arrived two Zebra brothers where waiting just inside the main gate, had to wait 10 mins for them to move 😀 Food was amazing. Simone is a brilliant cook, tried loads of food i would never order on a menu, delicious! Simone and Morné are great company. Morné, being a ranger for 17yrs knew so much about the wildlife. Well worth a visit. Close to the orpen gate entrance to Kruger Park.

Sadly, didn't get to see any lions or lepards upclose on our trip. Not the lodges fault. We did see wild dogs which is a rarer sight!

Breakfast was wonderful, tasty and carefully prepared by Simone. She is a great chef and puts effort into the preparation and presentation of the meals. The lodge is conveniently located between Blyde River and the Orpen gate. The management couple, Morne and Simone, is very friendly and top class hosts. Simone packed an amazing breakfast on our departure morning (5am).

Our room was spacious with a big kitchen area. However, it is not equipped, with no coffee making facilities or a small fridge, despite the double wash up basin in the kitchen. The lodge kitchen is accessible and open to guests 24/7, but a kettle in the room would've made a big difference in our overall experience. The thatch in the room is new but needs to be sealed. A double bed option as opposed to single beds would've been great. Animals are not roaming on the immediate premises but you can see buck if you take a guided walk. With no water hole on the property we saw only duiker on the lawn.

This stay was incredible, Simone and Morne made my trip to Kruger so easy and enjoyable, from the packed lunches to the homemade dinners and chats I couldn’t recommend this lodge more. They really make it special, I booked this last minute not really knowing what to expect but I’m so so glad I did! Went as a solo traveller and it was perfect!

It was just wonderful. Simone and Morne are the best. The food was delicious and the room really comfortable.

This is the nicest place we ever stayed at! Simone and Morne are amazing hosts, make you feel at home immediately and do everything to make your stay absolutely perfect. They know the best tours to Kruger and co. and Simone is an incredible cook. We’ve read about it before, but we do have a high standard so we didn’t expect too much, but it seriously was the best food I ever had at any accommodation. The only mistake we made was not staying longer. I would highly recommend to do at least 4 nights and spend at least one day relaxing at Makuwa. We cannot wait to go back some day (not only to stay at Makuwa but also to meet Simone and Morne again). The both of them definitely found their passion and you can feel it in every little detail! :)

On the way to Makuwa safari lodge welcomed by a leopard couple we found a true chef in Simone and two decades of safari knowledge in Morne in an amazing place. Lions roaring at the campfire in the evening, delicious dinner and breakfast plus the service of Prince as a personal guide in Kruger.
