Taorayiná nature lodge- immersed in the forest

It really felt like heaven once up there. The adventure of getting at the location makes it even more appealing for people who are enjoying an offroad motorbike ride and a bit of a hike. The hosts Marcelo and Juan Pablo are really great people too and will do the best to make you feel comfortable. We will deffo return next year!

beautiful little set up in the forest. room structures are built solidly and really strong wifi. staff were very friendly. definitely away from the hustle and bustle of the Santa Marta region. its purpose of land restoration is inspiring.

few things could be adjusted. meals are provided at an extra cost but you don’t have a choice in what or when you eat. if you choose to visit here make sure you bring snacks as the closest store is ~30 min by motor bike away. i can’t stress that point enough especially with hiking as a main activity there. small things like a sink for guests to brush their teeth in and a latch on the room door would make a difference

This lodge is an authentic jungle experience, where you are immersed in nature but with a comfortable bed, beautiful cabina, shower, amazing outdoor kitchen, and hammocks with the best views. I recommend staying at least two nights as it is a short moto ride and short hike to get to the hostel. Once you’re there, you won’t regret booking. It’s the perfect place for those who want to spend time in nature, and enjoy sunrise and sunset from the top of a mountain.

The lodge is located within the jungle which makes it a really authentic and adventurous stay. Marcel is super nice and kind. As well the cat is super cute, although, quite greedy (for cuddles and food).

As it is within the jungle, the facilities are quite simple and you have to be ready to do without any luxury and the shower and the toilet are quite rustical (although, the description might suggest something different). You need to walk for 20 minutes up the hill which can be quite strenious for unfit travellers, but, the view will be worth it.

The location and the views are beautiful and the bungalows are very impressive. Building this eco-tourism project is a wonderful plan and I'm impressed by their commitment to doing it 'right' and making it an authentically ecologically friendly place. Waking up to the sound of howler monkeys is always amazing. The food was nice and good portions. I spoke with Marcel over WhatsApp and he was super helpful in giving me instruction to arrive and getting a moto to meet me in Trompito, and when I arrived Juan Pablo was there to meet me and show me around quickly. Both were very friendly!

I feel bad leaving a not-so-positive review since the place is beautiful and they both were so friendly, but I think the description and photos on Booking are not exactly honest about the facilities of Taorayina. Eg. the info says 'There is a fully equipped shared bathroom with shower and free toiletries.' - there is an outdoor shower with walls made of bamboo that you can see everything through and no toiletries or towels. I was told that the toilet is only for solid waste, and to wee wherever I wanted 'in the nature', which isn't always comfortable for everyone. The toilet door didn't stay shut and there wasn't toilet paper or soap/water. I was put in a cabana rather than the domed room that I booked ('One-Bedroom Bungalow'), this was disappointing as I'd been excited to stay in the dome with the roof open to the sky, but it was still being built. The cabana had a great view but it wasn't clean or nicely set-up as in the photos, the mattress and pillow felt old and lumpy, and I had to move the bed in front of the door in the night to keep the door shut (otherwise it swung open) since I was alone and didn't feel comfortable just leaving the door wide open while I slept. A neighbour came up to Taorayina to make dinner and spent some time chatting and helped me try to light a fire in the fire pit (we failed as there was no dry wood), but once he was gone there was no-one on-site until morning and I had to work out, for instance, where the light switches are. This was not clear from the description, which suggests staff are on-site 24 hours, and was just a bit strange to find out once I was already there. There's nothing wrong with what Taorayina is offering - but it's much more rustic and 'natural' than the glossy photos and description suggest.

It was a beautifull experience and the David and Marcel are very nice people.

Absolutely gorgeous locations and a host with a heart of gold. Thank you for all the help in organizing our stay and making us feel so at home!

Simply to note for future travellers to account in your budget the excellent home cooked meals as well as the moto taxi to and from the main road to get to the accommodation. Also allow enough time to take the bus/taxi and then moto taxi to get there - it’s a very fun adventure, best during the daytime!

A true ecolodge. Only accessible by foot and therefore in the middle of nothing else than beauty. So different than all the other 100 ‘ecolodges’ that are close to the road or at the super busy hiking routes in the park. Waking up with the sound of monkeys and an incredible view from your bed. Beautiful hikes to make in the surrounding or take a rest in the many hang mock’s to choose. The hosts are wonderful and cook you a dinner, make you a coffee, show you around in the jungle or play a tune at the marimba.

I stayed way to short
