Since booking the room e started getting legitimate looking WhatsApp messages claiming we need to pay at a booking.Com look alike site. However, at booking.com our confirmation was valid. This hack can only come from someone who knows of our booking, either a hotel staffer or done one within booking.com Hotel reception said they've heard of such scam but did not want us to share the messages... Very suspicious.
