Hotel Rural Villa do Banho

The two sisters running the hotel were very welcoming, going out of their way to look after us. It was out of season and I think we were the only guests. Nevertheless they opened up the games/TV room in the annex for us and served us a wonderful 3 course dinner with wine and coffee for a very reasonable price (also providing vegetarian options for one of our party). The hotel is beautifully positioned by the river, in the centre of the village, with hot springs bubbling up in the public gardens opposite.

The hotel was lovely and the staff and the location.

We stayed here for New Years Eve and I chose this hotel and paid extra because it advertised 2 restaurants within the hotel. I was looking forward to a nice meal and a few drinks at the bar all under the same roof. As it was New Years Eve there was only one option and the evening meal was offered at €80 per head. This should have been mentioned when booking as we were not prepared to pay this price. The menu was fixed and so basically no choice and due to being on chemo there was nothing that appealed to a chemo belly. Having called several restaurants within walking distance it appeared all were closed and we ended up having to drive to the next town. Once we returned at 9.30pm we had to watch TV in our room as the bar was closed to guests that had not paid for dinner! The most disappointing New Years Eve ever.
