Km 18 is well known to explore birds in Colombia and this property definitely is one of the best place to stay. Only 45 mins from Cali. The owner Luis offers more than just accommodation. He offers early 6 am free bird tour/free night walk. This place has 2 hides for bird observation in the mountain behind of its building.. And even Scaled Antipitta could be seen daily if you are lucky. ( A bird rarely could be seen by public in the wilderness). Bird feeders for hummingbirds and many other birds 🐦 are all ready to be seen on its patio. Moths attraction with UV lights are also available in the forest at night. If you are new to bird's watching and night walk ( frogs and insects)This place offers you great opportunities to explore the nature right at where you stay. I was also. enjoying delicious breakfast ( included) in the patio surrounding by birds ( beautiful birds!!) every morning after the bird walk. Luis and his family has thoughtful plan for this nature business. And by supporting them, we also are supporting the protection of the forest in this area. Guests could also use this location as a base to explore other birds attraction site.

Vochtig dus kleding droogt heel slecht. Weinig zonlicht. Te kleine handdoeken. Dagje weg naar een andere stad is veel te duur voor wat het brengt (San Cipriano).

A fantastic array of birds around the property kept me busy with my camera for 3 days. Luis and family were friendly and knowledgable about the wildlife, they were always available to help. Would recommend the night walk on which we saw 2 owls. Could have been more but unfortunately rain kept them under cover. Well worth a visit and I will be returning next year.

There wasn't anything I didn't like.

I stayed here for 2 nights and, from my first contact via WhatsApp to saying goodbye in Cali, I was very well looked after. I arranged to be collected from my hotel in Cali and was kept well informed about the arrival time. Juan David - who has just graduated from college and is the son of Angela and Luis - is so polite and thoughtful and he is a real credit to them as parents. He took me out for a full day’s birding, starting at 5.30am, and throughout the day he was extremely professional and was very vigilant in ensuring I was comfortable and was keen to vary the schedule depending on what I wanted to do. His knowledge of the birds is excellent and he ensured I saw everything. The driver they used, Juan Sebastian, was also a real asset and similarly kept a close eye on me. The accommodation, though relatively simple, had everything I needed including a good shower with copious amounts of hot water. The bed was comfortable and the peace and quiet meant that, for the first time since arriving in Colombia over 2 weeks ago, I didn’t need to use ear plugs at night! My only slight niggle was that the room was a bit cold in the evening so I have suggested they invest in a small heater for the room, again Juan David was very receptive to my feedback and is obviously keen to learn from their guests. A real bonus is that the whole family speaks English, not a particularly common feature in Colombia (to my shame I don’t speak Spanish). Food wise they were extremely flexible about when I ate and provided a small plate of fruit one evening when I didn’t feel like a full meal. I can only wish the family the best for the future, they were most welcoming and deserve 10/10 for their hard work.

Excellent location for nature and bird watching. Lois and Angela and their son have worked very hard to create a natural refuge for animals and birds. They offer excellent bird tours and are very knowledgeable. The 2 rooms offered each have 2 beds. Good hit water. Excellent local food. Two viewing blinds. Loved it here. Good WiFi

Rooms can be cold…no heaters… but plenty of blankets available.

If you are interested in birds, this place is what you are looking for. There are 2 hides and both wood quails and antpittas can be seen there. There are various rooms, either independent or inside the house.

People coming for the morning your will influence the experience. Either for good or bad.

A lovely, comfortable property in its own right, but an exception place for bird watching and bird photography. Tanager and hummingbird feeders are replenished several times a day to meet demand. You can just have a seat under one of several awnings, rain or shine, and enjoy. There are also forest trails and bird blinds for shyer species including scaled antpittas, chestnut wood-quails and trogons. Your bilingual host Louis is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about birds, and several times a day he’s available to take you around the property on short excursions to point them out. Every meal was healthy and delicious, and the whole family was welcoming.

Know that all or most fincas in the Km 18 neighborhood are distant from anything like a town center. It is mountainous terrain with steep and winding roads. Arranging transport is part of the job of the independent traveler. Once you arrive, you are reliant on your hosts…but they take great care of you! And you have gained access to the beautiful and abundant species of the Km 18 cloud forest.

We felt so lucky to be staying at this wonderful birding lodge. The owners were so helpful and the food delicious. Luis and his son Juan are fantastic guides. The bird feeders and hides on the property are set up just right for great photography. we wish we could give more then 5 stars. Luis picked us yo from Luis picked us up from the airport and coordinated all of our activities. Awesome place!
