Santa Juana Lodge & Nature Reserve

Eine wunderschönes Lodge in den Bergen über Quepos. Die Aussicht ist grandios und das Gaus war einfach großartig. Keine Fensterscheiben, nur Moskitonetze. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt.

Un endroit merveilleux où on a l’impression d’être hors du temps. Appartement spacieux et fonctionnel. On se croirait enfin on est en pleine nature à une moustiquaire près ! Depuis la lodge on observe plein d’oiseaux

Un repas plus varié le soir serait appréciable

We loved this place so much and it is one of my all time favourite stays. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent and freshly prepared with much care. What made this place such a standout was the stunning views over the valley, simply magical. We loved all of the sounds of bird life and we were lucky enough to see Toucans each day. If you want a peaceful stay in nature, you will find it here. We wish we could have stayed longer.

The drive up is a little challenging but is well worth it. You can walk to the waterfall in 20 minutes but the walk up is hard, so consider driving instead.

Lodge was truly unforgettable — without a doubt the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with exceptional hospitality. A special thank you to Alan and the entire team for making us feel so genuinely cared for throughout our stay — your warmth and attention to detail made all the difference. The lodges are beautiful, thoughtfully designed, and perfectly immersed in the surrounding nature. Waking up to the sounds of the jungle — birds, insects, and distant waterfalls — felt magical and deeply relaxing. One of the most memorable experiences was discovering the hidden waterfall (Alan’s suggestion) — a wild, untouched gem that made us feel like we had stepped into a secret world. The food deserves its own praise: delicious home-made local dishes, fresh ingredients, and wonderful local fruits served every morning. It added such an authentic and comforting touch to the experience. If you are looking for a place where nature, tranquility, and genuine hospitality come together, this is it. Santa Juana is not just a stay — it’s an experience. A truly magical place we will never forget.

Hidden away in lush rainforest and situated on a hillside, we got exceptional views of the stunning scenery and wildlife from our spacious balcony, complete with hammock. We were lucky enough to see macaws, toucans and vultures soaring through the skies and nesting in the nearby trees. The villa was beautifully decorated, well equipped and clean, and provided stunning vistas across the landscape. The beds were extremely comfortable and we loved waking to the sounds of birds and wildlife in the morning. The owners and all the staff at Santa Juana were fantastic - going above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was also a highlight of our stay, as we got to sample a range of exotic fresh juices and fruit and the gallo pinto and casado were some of the best we tasted in Costa Rica. Our kids also loved the fluffy pancakes with maple syrup! The pool provided a nice space to relax and cool off during the hot days and the restaurant / bar area was a wonderful place to hang out and appreciate the surrounding wildlife. A highlight for us was taking a hike down to the nearby waterfall (owned by Santa Juana lodge). A beautifully quiet and clean area that all of us enjoyed swimming in. For those who are a little more adventurous, there are also platforms you can jump in from! This was one of our favourite places to stay in Costa Rica and would highly recommend it to those looking for a peaceful get-away!

Nothing - it was all fantastic!

Sehr schöne Lage mit Blick bis zum Meer, schöne große Zimmer mit toller Terrasse. Es gibt kaum richtige Fenster, sondern Fliegengitter, so dass es sehr naturnah ist. Sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter. Sehr schöner Wasserfall mit Bademöglichkeit, den man für sich alleine hat.

Das inkludierte Abendessen ist ok, aber die Auswahl entspricht eher einem soliden Soda. Da hätten wir in der Preisklasse deutlich mehr erwartet. Auch das Frühstück war sehr einfach und bietet auch nicht mehr als das in Hotels, die ein Viertel kosten. Es hätte auch etwas sauberer sein können, zB waren Spinnweben am Hocker. Außerdem hatten wir extrem viele Ameisen im Zimmer. Das ist zwar an sich normal bei so einem Konzept, aber so viele Ameisen wie hier hatten wir sonst nirgends. Insgesamt war der Aufenthalt absolut in Ordnung, aber das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis hat einfach nicht gepasst.

We loved every minute of our stay at the lodge. The location was stunning, so peaceful and the views were incredible. The walk to the waterfall was amazing; we also spent a great morning swimming in the different pools. The food was varied and tasty and we loved the presentation, the shrimp rice was a particular highlight and the eggs and traditional breakfast was a perfect start. Our cabin was gorgeous - the shower had a great view and we loved sitting outside listening to the wildlife and at night the stars were breathtaking. All of the staff were great so friendly and informative. This also included the support from Alison when booking the room and organising transport. The swimming pool was also a hidden gem and we really enjoyed our cooking class. A wonderful stay from start to finish :)

This is the most magical place that I have ever stayed at. The views were spectacular, wildlife on the doorstep, the waterfall kept us and the kids entertained for two days (it was truly amazing) and the staff were so friendly and attentive.

Don't get me wrong, the food was amazing but I did miss a lighter breakfast option such as yoghurt or cereal.
