Olaloi Mara Camp

This is an extremely basic accommodation – please manage your expectations. The reception was very rudimentary. The location had no signage; even our local guide didn't know this place and we had to get out and open the gate ourselves. Upon first arrival, the staffs were quite socially awkward, Compared to other lodges, we did not receive a warm welcome. The food was just okay.The main dishes were mostly chicken, and one day there was no meat at all. It rained during our stay. We only received an umbrella after we specifically went to ask for one. The power went out numerous times – so many times that we couldn't even get our power banks charged. The water pressure in the shower was also terrible.

We had chosen this place after reading reviews that mentioned Maasai history talks and a bonfire. However, on the first night when it wasn't raining, it wasn't arranged. On the second night when it was raining, it was obviously not happening either. There was basically no WiFi in the rooms, and the connection in the common areas was also very poor.

It is an intimate property, with only three lodges on site. As such, the friendly staff are readily available and always willing to accommodate your needs. The food was cooked well, there is nighttime security, and the day rates for a Land Cruiser are quite reasonable. The room itself was very nice, with a rustic-safari feel, and very clean.

The only challenge I had was finding the hotel, as there is no road signage at the Talek Gate with the other lodges' signs, and there is no sign at the entrance either. You should drive up just past the town center and it's on the left in a nondescript gate tucked in the trees. You should plan to call the manager and meet him on the roadside.

The stay in olaloi was an absolute delight. Such a welcoming vibe Benjamin , chef John , Helen , Mr. Tanin , Simon & our great Safari companion Daniel all , they all made us feel so welcomed and cared for. The arrangements they all made were great and our trip to Maasai mara was phenomenal

Mwangi, who was our driver to and from Nairobi, was excellent—very friendly and great company throughout our journey. All the staff were impeccable. The chef took great care of us by preparing very delicious meals. Jonathan, our safari guide, was very experienced and thanks to him we saw so many animals—an outstanding experience. The place was very clean and well-kept. Everything was excellent.

We had a wonderful stay at Olaloi. The food was absolutely delicious, and our safari guide even said the packed lunch was the best he’s ever had. Benjamin (Latata) served us with such kindness and a warm smile, which made every meal even more enjoyable. Wilson took great care of everything and made sure our rooms and stay was perfectly comfortable and bug-free. Chef John prepared outstanding meals that we’ll be thinking about long after our trip. Tanin provided excellent security and made us feel safe throughout our stay. Olaloi truly exceeded our expectations in every way and we highly recommend it.

We zaten met zijn vieren in twee prachtige van met riet-bedekt puntdak voorziene grote kamers met eigen badkamer. De verzorging door het team personeel onder leiding van Wilson was fenomenaal. Van de kok tot en met de bediende bij de maaltijden en de bewaker tijdens het donker, iedereen was oprecht aardig. Het eten was fantastisch en we hebben nieuwe smaken geleerd van chef John. De middag/avond gamedrive die vanuit de lokatie geregeld werd met gids Jonathan was ook heel bijzonder. Van de spanning bij de crossing van de Mara rivier (helaas keerden de zebra’s en wildebeests uiteindelijk om, maar dat mocht de pret niet drukken ) tot het spotten van 14 (!) leeuwen :-). Het was werkelijk een fantastisch verblijf om nooit te vergeten!

I have just returned from a truly exceptional stay at Olaloi Mara Camp. From the moment I arrived I was warmly greeted and made to feel at home by all the members of the small and perfectly formed team that run the camp - each of Wilson, Helen, John, Benjamin, Tanin and Jonathan went out of their way to make my stay the experience that I will remember always. Wilson, Helen and Benjamin were wonderful hosts, paying close attention to every detail. John takes such pride and is so professional in the preparation and presentation of the delicious three course meals he freshly prepares every day. Tanin was always on hand to escort me to and from my room, whatever time of day. And Jonathan who took me on my game drives, was excellent - such good company and his local Maasai knowledge meant that we had great viewings of everything, including more than one close encounter with leopards, lions and cheetahs. The genuine kindness and hospitality that shines through from all really makes Olaloi a special place. One day I arrived back from a morning game drive to have lunch and a table had been set up in the garden - it was a lovely gesture and one of many examples of the thoughtfulness shown by the team. I hope to return to the Maasai Mara one day, and there will be no question of staying anywhere other than Olaloi Mara Camp. Jemimah was also excellent in her communication from the moment I booked.

The only downside for me was that I had to leave!

The Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Delicious food, very clean rooms. They organised an extraodinary game drive for us, with an very experienced and super nice guide, we saw so many different animals, which we had never expected. Additionall, we warmly can recommend the driver, the organised to get us to nairobi. Safe driver, good car and knows a lot about the country. I really can highly recommend olaloi Mara Camp!!!!!
