Hopewell Lodge

Everything!! I would easily give Hopewell Lodge a ranking 15 out of 10.. during our two months trip this stands out as the top of the top.. lovely staff,,wonderful place..you can use kajaks,paddleboard,rowing boat,mountain bikes,pick your own fresh oysters and greenlipped mussels ,,take a bath in a hot tub,,swim in the sea..enjoy delicious homemade pizzas,,but most of all enjoy the warmth and hospitality from Langley and Mike..it is a long trip to get there but believe me..it’s worth every second

Absolutely nothing to complain about

The community feel and hospitality of the hosts. The isolation and calm environment. The different activities included in the price. The stunning sunrises and sunsets.

The shared bathroom and toilets

Loved the fact that it was remote and not very busy.. Loved how organised the kitchen was and the possibility to fish and cook your own meals seeing how remote it was.. Loved how friendly Lynley and her husband were!

Although beautiful, the road to get there is a bit long and windy.. and getting there by water taxi is a bit expensive and adds up to the cost unless if you're staying for more than 3 nights.. The cabins are the opposite of soundproof.. for light sleepers, can hear people talk in the morning, walk around the gravel pathways etc..

Petit paradis chez un couple d’une grande gentillesse. Cet hôtel est exceptionnel à bien des niveaux, l’accueil très chaleureux, les petites attentions, chaque détail est préparé avec attention ! Les chambres sont très propres et confortables, la vue est incroyable. Les activités sur place sont nombreuses, rando, kayak, pêche, etc.. grande cuisine et grand salon à dispo, avec tous l’équipement nécessaire. Une pépite comme on en voit peu!

Location was good to reach and boat taxi useful. Mike and Renley so kind and thoughtful for their guest with care service. good to use recreation equipment as complimentary with free of charge fishing bait. The Lodge's circumstance was well managed as paradise. beach is just near but gently sliding degree to move with boat and kayak. sea was calm and many of fishes to catch. The kitchen was kept as clean and in order. good chance for most of guest visiting for fishing,collecting oysters and Mussel.

Wifi wasn't working properly out of radial area.

Such a relaxing stay with excellent facilities & activities. Lynley & Mike were super friendly and accommodating.

Friendly and helpful hosts who provided a feed of mussels and baked treats, stunning location in paradise. Hiked and kayaked and loved the spa pool with its majestic view.

The long drive in such a windy road which took forever

This place is a diamond amongst an already beautiful array of gems. The drive was a bit of a mission due to road repairs form recent storms, but we still got there safely and the information prior to coming in regards to the road conditions and time needed for travelling was accurate and helpful. The room was great, it had a small ensuite and it was comfortable and private. The owners are lovely people who were the highlight of the stay. They went above and beyond to help, to provide all information we needed and to look after us. There are shared cooking facilities at the Lodge, but we opted to order a pizza made onsite. It was the biggest pizza I've had in my life, and really delicious. They brought it right to our deck for us and we ate it whilst overlooking the most lovely views of the lake and surrounds. Just delightful. Espresso coffee the next morning was fab too! We didn't use a lot of the facilities, but we had many available, including fishing equipment, boats, boards, and all sorts of other amenities. Most impressive. There is a small private beach just small walk away and we were told that the temperature was 19 degrees that day. We didn't go swimming, but we did enjoy the tranquility and peace of just sitting there enjoying the natural beauty around us. The birds, the native bush and the lake were all stunning and made for a beautiful break away for us. When I mentioned that drive was a mission and that I wasn't particularly looking forward to driving on the 2.5 hour journey back to the main road, one of the owners offered to drive our car to Te Mahia Bay (a 1.5 hour drive) and meet us so we could take the water taxi across the lake (a mere 15 minutes). We were happy to accept this offer. It took all the stress away from the prospect of the long drive. Thank you so much for this! There is absolutely NOTHING I can say that is negative about this trip. It was wonderful! Highly recommended! Thank you!
