"Very poor"

2.0

We visited Costa Rica three times, stayed in over ten places, and the only one where we had a bad experience was in La Chosa del Manglar. We attribute it mostly to the highest price/quality ratio and the bad attitude of the owner and his son. We booked a private apartment for five adult guests for $230. The kitchen was well equipped. However, the double beds were short in length, and the single bed was a sofa, extremely short and uncomfortable (see photo). Furthermore, it was not clean, with dust on the shelves and spider webs. In addition, another guest used a common area next to our apartment, separated only by a mosquito net, making it noisy and awkward. It was not worth the price. As regards the attitude of the owners, we felt uncomfortable due to two situations: When doing our reservation, we explicitly asked to pay in cash instead of a credit card and told them we would arrive late. When we arrived, they had already charged us before 9:00 pm one night into the credit card, against our petition. Besides, the son of the owner asked us if we had already booked a tour to Corcovado National Park. He kind of made fun of the tour we had already booked and made us feel that we had been a scam for what we paid for and scared that we didn’t have the right equipment. Then he told us they owned an agency company and offered us a different tour. We decided to continue with the one we had already booked, resulting in an incredible experience. When we came back from Corcovado’s trip, we asked the receptionist for the receipt for the second night since we did not receive any email yet, from booking, as when we paid with credit card. The owner heard us from behind, and instead of apologizing and trying to resolve things, he started discussing and increasing the tone of his voice. Luckily, we had some amazing days in the Osa peninsula that cannot be shaded by the bad experience we had in La Chosa del Manglar.

"Disappointing accommodation, an overpriced basic hostel."

4.0

The location of this place is good, on the edge of Puerto Jimenez,

The service was sloppy, for example were not told about the car park being wired shut at 9pm or how to get back in when it is. We were not shown where our outside seating area was until we asked about it in the morning. There was no food of any kind available and no drinks sold. The reception area was unwelcoming, a bit depressing. The cabin we booked was the most expensive at the 'hotel' but the room is very basic. The bathroom is small, no where to hang towels or place toiletries. The floor of the shower is very rough, like an outdoor rough stone patio. The wash basin fell off it's plinth and the drain pipe disconnected so water poured onto the floor. There was no where in the bedroom to hang clothes or store anything, just one small table and no chairs. The bed was basic but alright. The AC worked very well, in fact the room was very cold when we arrived. We explained the problems to Andrew in the morning and to his and his Mother's credit they did make some effort to improve the room, but the basics are just not good. This is not a 'hotel' but a very basic self catering hostel, it is very much overpriced.

"Green and beautiful nature"

8.0

The location is amazing. I had the feeling to be in the eden garden with beautiful vegetation, trees and a lot of birds and animals : toucans, aras, monkeys. The staff is very nice and welcoming. I strongly recommend this location if you want to feel part of the nature.

"Great stay"

9.0

Welcoming staff. There is an shared kitchen. You are almost in the most in the forest, you can hear the parrots, cappuccins, and all other birds. They provide good advice for tours. By the way, ask for Juan Carlos as your tour guide. We did the bioluminescence tour, and the also the Plan B (which is better than Plan A) a ride with Juan Carlos that will show you the animals.
