A welcoming backpackers lodge across the road from the beach. The kitchen is well-stocked and organised and the bathrooms are clean. There’s a great deck out the back with lots of seating, a bbq & pizza oven. We stayed in a twin room which was private for a couple. The beds were comfortable with linen private. There was a bathroom right next door. Highly recommend.

The beach is fabulous, and directly across the road. This lodge is a historic building with some very nice features and is obviously looked after. There is some parking on site, and the host made sure to check that I was able to park my car. Met their cute dog. Lots of furniture around outside for relaxing. Kitchen seems well equipped. Lots of really pleasant outdoors space for sitting/eating/hanging out.

We weren't given towels. Not sure if that was a mistake or what. The room I booked, private twin, was nicely fresh and the beds were comfortable but it got really hot and to get enough air moving through with the fan meant letting in a lot of light. Also the light form behind the room was very strong and the curtain didn't block it (If you need dark to sleep, don't book this room!). The nearest bathroom (toilet and shower)was very nice, but like shared bathrooms, is subject to other customers taking some care and hopefully not being in there for long durations. We didn't have great luck in that regard. The lock on the door for this room is a latch on the inside or a combination lock on the outside, a little tricky with 2 people sharing a room. I booked this because of rave reviews. Paid NZ $130 for one night in a twin room, which in retrospect seems like a lot for compared to other great hostels and very nice motels we have been in (disregarding the towel situation) but perhaps that is what you pay for this location?

Lovely place to stay for a few days and checkout the lighthouse/sand dunes. This place is really clean and has a great vibe and atmosphere. There is a very sweet doggo :) We will visit the guesthouse again soon.
