"Very good"

8.0

The staff and hotel were lovely and relaxing, felt quite remote with a big window in our room showing snow covered woods.

The actual road the the hotel is on was closed, and although they advise you to go around the back way, the road is still closed, though for a shorter section. It was not plowed like the main roads and was drivable in our hire car however there was more snow expected the following day and I felt we could have gotten stuck.

Great isolated location. Fantastic host.. No English but get on google translator..

Driving up there in a blizzard with 1 access road completely closed and other almost undriveable in a 2 wheel drive car with snow tyres.. I got there but had to drive in reverse to get through 2 'S' bends as unable to get traction.. AWD or 4WD would be better. But not explained on bookings..

"Remote and comfortable. Onsen onsite small but sufficient. Staff drove us to ski fields each day."

10.0

Excellent experience. Picked up at train station Myoko Kogen. Each day we were driven to a different ski field / arranged a pick up time. All transfers included. No need for a car. Onsite onsen small but sufficent. Bar area to socialise, amazing views from room. Staff were helpful - google translate solved lots of communication issues. Not suitable if you want to be out in town at night. Breakfast and dinner included - plenty of food and variety. Unusual ingredients at night but that is the Japanese way. Take snacks if you need and sweets as no shop nearby. You can actually ski from lodge to top of Akakura Onsen ski run - they will ask you to sign a disclaimer - go through the tunnel and ski down and then buy a lift pass. It is a 20 - 30 min drive to other ski lift starts. Highly recommended. (Australia)

Everything. The location is like a dream. The staff is incredibly welcoming and kind. It's like being invited into a home. The onsen was amazing, the food was amazing, the hosts are amazing. Everything was amazing.

Nothing. If you are sensitive to kerosene fumes you might not like it, but you won't like a lot of buildings in Japan if that's the case. I grew quite fond of it, and now everywhere I smell it, I get homesick for Tsubame Highland Lodge.

"Charming lodge up in the mountains"

10.0

Great location up in the mountains and surrounded by beautiful woodland. Hosts were amazing, even though they spoke little English, however they made their best effort to accommodate and help us, including lifts to the neighbouring towns. The Lodge itself is beautiful, if a little old but this adds to its eclectic charm. Dinner was delicious. Sitting out in the lounge with other guests and a sake on-the-house was the perfect way to unwind after a long day.
