Al Camar Lodge

If you are coming to Comoros then this is your best option. I drove across the island and consider this the best hotel. The room was great and the views are amazing. The breakfast was nice. The best thing about it though was the manager. He was extremely kind and courteous to me as I was unwell whilst I was there. He arranged everything for me, and I’m very grateful.

Beautiful views over the Indian Ocean, very helpful and friendly staff. A destination you don’t want to miss if you are looking for a calm and unique holiday/vacation. The white sand beach. Fresh fruits breakfast. Around 20 min drive to the airport. There is no other restaurant options nearby the property. No public transportation but the Hotel offers transportation for ex. to airport and to areas you want to go to at a cost. To be fair, Comoros is a very unique country and destination. It’s better to make all arrangements with your host/hotel otherwise you might end up stuck.

The room did not match the description of what I paid for. The manager, when I checked in, was very resistant to either upgrading me to what I paid for or refunding my money. Luckily, the person who was at the desk later on, was able to accommodate me and move my room The following day. Before I moved to a The following day. Before I moved to a new room, there was loud banging on the other side of my bathroom. It sounded like the wall was going to break. Unfortunately, once I was moved, the new room had a toilet issue so it kept sounding like it was running and flushing all day. They had to come and turn it off. It’s like they moved me from one Inadequate room To another. Outside of the road manager, the rest of the staff was very nice and very kind. They really wanted to help and I appreciate that. The breakfast buffet was delicious And the pool was very peaceful to sit for the day. Lastly, there is no elevator so they do have staff on standby to bring bags up and down the stairs. When my ride was called, no one was available and it took almost 15 minutes for someone to bring my bags down. Luckily, the driver didn’t mind waiting, but they could stand to work on that a bit.

It was a beautiful property, and I was placed in a lovely suite overlooking the ocean. The staff was friendly, kind, and helpful. The food was also quite delicious.

The location is really beautiful, with a wonderful sunset view, a nice lagoon feature allowing you to enjoy the sea while avoiding the turbulent waves in the area, and a beautiful garden setting. The room was large and well equipped. I had - by far - my most comfortable night sleep at the lodge, with well functioning air-conditioning and a really comfortable bed. The staff are also really kind and helpful, and speak good English. The chef accommodated my request for vegetarian food though I hadn't let them know my needs in advance.

It's not easily accessible to anything else, so you do need to enjoy it as all inclusive or request a taxi to get around, but it's also a really great option (better than Moroni) if you have a day before or after an international/domestic flight as it's pretty close to the airport. The buildings and amenities show some wear and tear and there are issues with electricity (they have a generator for night) seemingly reflecting the lack of tourists and resource access in the entire country (I had the same issues at other lodges) - but for me, that's also all the more reason to go and support such a nice place.

It was secluded so I could wear a swimsuit. Dinner was nice.
