Wild Waves Surf-House

Amazing location right at the beach with many choices of surf breaks out front and close to several restaurants/hostels for food and social activities (I ended up going to eat at Amahula a lot since I'm vegetarian and they had a lot of good options, plus they organized group things so it was easy to meet people). Johnny is super friendly and helpful, he connected me with a cheap taxi when I left and gave me ear drops when I got an ear infection from surfing. His kids are also adorable and the staff is really kind. It was fun getting to meet his family and see their friends who would come by for food, to surf, or to chat, giving the place a more authentic feeling. The rooms are simple but cozy, nice to have a private space and bathroom, though some things could have been cleaner. There is no AC but they have floor fans for the room I was in, at least, though make sure you bring bug spray because there are a lot of mosquitoes around. There's a shared kitchen as well I would cook in-- you do have to pay for water, which I didn't know before arriving. Overall I enjoyed my stay here and would recommend to a solo traveler, couple, or a group of a few friends. Johnny and his family are great hosts and the other travelers I met there were very friendly as well. Thank you guys!

Not sure how to put this other than to say I booked for one week and stayed for three - hopefully that says everything. The place is all of 20m from the beach and conveniently located right behind a bar looking over the ocean for a sunset beverage. The owner was very accommodating even through to the point of dropping me in San Jaun at the end of my stay. The fulltime worker is a beast who never stops cleaning, so the place was as spotless as it could get in that part of the world. For the surfers, the owner is pretty switched on about that (He's hooked up with the ISA etc) and can talk the talk and tell you where to go. The main break is maybe a 15-minute walk, with the beginner bay about 15-minutes further. The beach breaks right in front of the house were pretty temperamental and tidal dependant, but plenty fine when they were on. All in all the area is pretty wave rich, and the location puts you in a good spot to explore all of it.

Giannis was a legend, very helpful and gave some local recommedations. Great location near restaurants and cafes, very close to the beach.

The host and his family were super helpful and kind! Room and bathroom was clean and nice. Good kitchen and chilling area with hammocks. Not too long walk to the surf breaks. I really enjoyed my time in Popoyo!

We really enjoyed our stay in Popoyo and this accommodation was definitely one of the reasons! The room is extremely comfortable, bed and shower were amazing. We also used the kitchen very often and we had all the utensils we needed. The facilities were always very tidy and we felt at home. The beach was our backyard with easy access, such a special place. There was also free coffee every morning.

They have a filtered water system, but you have to pay for refills.
