Ecolodge Rain

Janette greeted us warmly on arrival, in slow, lilting Spanish that was easy to understand. The grounds include a yoga shala (that was shared with some curing wood), a fire pit area, a parking area, and a trail to an Ecological reserve with advanced level trails and waterfalls (3,000/pp, open 11-4). There was a shared kitchen with a microwave, hot plate, fridge and kettle. We were successful in scrambling some eggs but the hot plate wasn't strong enough to cook beans. Signage was mediocre, but we found the location with signs and GPS. Just keep going up the windy dirt road, once you turn into the ecolodge. There is something of a view through the trees, of the valley below. The stars were magnificent despite the full moon. The birds entertained us with their calls, we saw toucans and parrots and listened to their songs. We purchased coffee from the farm to take home.

This is somewhat spendy for a hostel. In the past, apparently breakfast was included but is no longer. The bed was particularly uncomfortable and the shower had only cold water (in the shared bath). The road was passable in my turbodiesel but an ordinary 4x2 should not attempt it. There are no trails onsite, only at the Ecological reserve, which are very advanced and you must pay to access. The cooking facilities were not functioning adequately to prepare anything but a warmed meal.

Absolutely beautiful location. The owner was super nice, our room was cozy and clean and the nature reserve with cloud forest and waterfalls was just some steps away. You can prepare your meals in a communal kitchen. Bathroom is separate but the walk is covered. We would love to stay here again!

Matress is very old and uncomfortable. The whole kitchen looks like they stored old stuff that they don't need anymore. Not even a lighter for the stove was prepared. (No problem for smokers). Fridge was very loud. The view was over plastic greenhouses and cut down trees. Noise from road was traveling over the valley. To get there you must travel over 3km of windy dusty road. When we arrived at 6pm the gate was locked and we had to call the owner to be let in. We would not come again.
