"最高"

10.0

"the Totoro house"

10.0

It is an old style house, so as long as you aren't expecting Western/modern comforts, it's fantastic! My daughter called it the Totoro house. You will sleep on Japanese futons that you lay out on the tatami mats - if you've never slept on a futon it might feel uncomfortable/hard compared to Western beds. You will eat sitting on the tatami mats, but there are a couple of small Western chairs if sitting on the floor is difficut. The bathroom is Japanese style with the toilet in one section, the sink/vanity in a second section and the shower with separate furo (deep bathtub for soaking after washing in the shower) in the third section. It was not the most modern but all clean and more spacious than the Western hotel bathrooms we had other parts of Japan! There is a TV, wifi worked great and a bluetooth speaker to play music. There aren't a lot of "tourist" attractions nearby but it you want serenity this hits the spot - a few steps away has you walking among farming fields and the house is also close to the forest with a little stream running along side the road making for a peaceful but easy walk up the mountain. The gohan (rice) cooked in the old style stove was the best we ate our entire trip! Wish we had bought some of the local rice. It can get a little smoky when dinner is being cooked but my mild asthma was fine. The host, Hiro, is amazing, super accomodating and friendly, he introduced us to his shiba inu (dog) and his duck, and even though we didn't ask ahead, he prepped for us to make tofu - this experience was an extra fee but totally worth it! During the winter you can also request mochitsuki (pounding rice into mochi) and summer/fall you can make noodles (can't remember if he said soba, ramen or udon). Hiro's English is limited, but he's so engaging, we asked him to eat dinner with us and my daughter loved that...he has such good energy!

"Beautifully Restored Japanese Farmhouse"

10.0

Wonderful opportunity to stay in an authentic antique farmhouse (150 years old?). The host, Hiro, has been restoring it beautifully in the old-style while fully updated the modern amenities (bathroom and kitchen). Tatami floors throughout, all very clean and in great condition. Hiro made us dinner, rice on a traditional wood stove, and a central firepit for grilling in the center of the large common space. Also provided is a fulfilling homemade japanese breakfast. The location is a small, quiet farming village at rhe foot of thr mountains near the lake, but only about 5 minutes by car to the lake and nearby town with shops and things.

I would recommend providing a few small desk lamps or standing lamps, to use when you are in bed or quietly sitting at table and do not want to turn on the bright overhead lights.

Great accommodation to experience true old fashioned way of Japanese living back in days, yet modern adjustment were made to make stay very comfortable! Host were extremely friendly and helpful, cute pets living at site was welcoming to make you feel at home. Food was excellent too!!

There were some bugs coming in the house due to change of season.

"Very interesting old Japanese home"

8.0

it is an old Japanese house, the house is around 150 years old. it was very interesting to see how is a old house, the house was clean and we could totally experience how would be the old times in the rooms of the house that is furnished with old furniture as well, and the same time have the conforte of the modern times.

there were a smoke smell in the house, because it is the kind of house that has a fire place to cook in the middle of the dining room, because is a old house and you can experience the old times, so the smell os smoke is inevitable. But the other members of my family didn’t was bothered with the smell just me.
