As advertised, Tiko ist he real Africa. We stayed for three days and had a great time! We were welcomed with open arms right from the beginning. Our kids (ages 7, 9 and 15 yrs) quickly connected with the local kids, despite some language difficulties, and were mostly to be found either on the football field or somewhere in the yard running around. We adults were shown the local projets: the compost programm, the internet cafe and the area. Throughout are stay we were invited to a service at church, were taken on a trip to the surrounding areas, got to see the initiation dance for young women and were taken to a nearby village to see a ghost dance at night. All very impressive experiences that you dont get to see with your usual tourist guide. And it is a win-win-situation: the local people and the project profit from tourists and the tourists get to see real local life apart from the usual tourist programms. Accommodation is basic, but has all one needs. The food is nothing fancy but tasty and you can eat local food if you like, you will be fed three times a day. They offer different activities and workshops that will give you an deeper understanding of the people and the area. The people at Tiko are all nice and welcoming, some even a little shy. Overall a great place, also for families with kids. A must visit for everyone who wants to dive a little deeper into rural life in Zambia. We would love to come back some day <3

"Adequate and convenient, easy-going and very affordable."

8.0

Conveniently located along the main road, yet very quiet, the place has a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere. We were lucky to get any accommodation at all, with everywhere else being booked full due to the Kulamba ceremony. This is a community centre, focused on helping the local population to improve farming and other livelihood practices, so the accommodation is not their core business. Our room was basic but adequate and there is electricity 24-7 and WiFi. The centre employs mostly unschooled local staff and therefore there are some language barriers. The restaurant uses home-grown products, including vegetables and herbs, cultivated in large baskets. You actually see where your organic vegetables are coming from, this is the most efficient and transparent farm-to-fork chain possible. In short, this place is not for the high-class luxury-loving tourist, but top notch for people who want to experience the real Zambia, characterised by rustic living style and warm hospitality, characteristic of Zambian culture.

a really good project. the place offers many exciting tours and activities, such as visits to local villages, local schools and religious communities, authentic Gule Wamkulu, workshops and much more. We were lucky enough to be invited to a party on site, with all the locals, music, dance, plays, local food, and traditional dances. It's not a luxury hotel, but it has the facilities you need, and it's really nice for the price.
