Villa Mathios

We had an excellent stay at Villa Mathios.The property is very comfortable, spacious, and located in a quiet area, yet with easy access to the highway and only a short 6-minute drive from the city center. The service was exceptional. George and Nikos were always available, professional, and extremely helpful with any requests or information we needed throughout our stay. Overall, the villa offers the perfect combination of comfort, tranquility, and convenience, making it an excellent choice for both relaxation and exploring the surrounding area.

Nikos' villa is very nice with a lovely garden and pool that looks out towards the sea about 200 meters away. There is a parking port at the front with a lovely mature lemon tree for a refreshing lemon tea whenever you need one. The keen swimmers in the family said the pool was much better for swimming by being a little deeper than others we've used. The villa itself was very clean and well organised - we found everything we needed for cooking and washing clothes plus the added bonus of the TV having Netflix for anyone with a log-in (not something we've found to be typical). The whole space has a wonderful, relaxed vibe. The villa's location is quite near the main road and not 'atmospheric' by itself - but we were completely unaware of the road when in the villa or the garden. As you would be unlikely to stay here without a car, you're only 5-10 minutes from the resort beaches (we used Platanes and really liked it) and all the bars, restaurants, hotels, etc of the town of Platanes (though if you're coming mainly for the beach and resort, bear in mind many don't open until May). Drive another 10 minutes and you are in Rethymno itself, a really wonderful stop in the old town with its maze of pedestrian streets filled with nice shops, restaurants, bars, gelaterias, etc. The drive to Knossos and Iraklio's Archaeological Museum are an hour's drive and there are other attractions within 30 mins drive, like an easy gorge walk, traditional villages, etc. The south coast and sites like Plakias are about 45 minutes drive. Nikos was pleasant and helpful during our stay and responded to all texts.

The communication with our host was great from the beginning and we had everything we needed in the villa. It's a lovely quiet house and the pool is really gorgeous. We were travelling with our baby daughter and it was very convenient as the beach is walking distance, there is a taverna next door and the supermarket is only 5 min walk.

The house is nice, especially the pool and the garden. The location is convenient with easy access to the main road. There is a small supermarket and couple of restaurant in walking distance.

The check-in instructions could've been more clear since GPS guides to the street on the opposite side. The area is not especially nice to hang out so you'd most likely want to have a car to drive around.
