Shim San Jae

I loved the traditional setting. There is everything you need for a comfy stay, kitchen even had some noodles for hungry travellers. We slept well, the neighbourhood was calm yet very close to Tongin Market. The check in was effortless although we had a bit of a trouble to find the house even with Naver app. Luckily someone on the street helped us to locate it. The bathroom and toilet is completely private and has a nice touch of classic music.

The only thing we missed were hangers for clothes.

욕실 및 화장실이 외부에 있다고 안내되었다면 어린 아이를 데리고 예약하지 않았을것 같아요. 성인들의 향수를 자극하는 구조이지만 돌쟁이 아기를 데리고는 어려웠네요.

The villa is not very far from the metro station actually (around 15 mins walk) and there is a lot to see, to eat while you walk to the metro station. The vibe of the villa is excellent while the facilities are modern. Love the CD+bluetooth player and the coffee corner in the kitchen. The kitchen is excellent even we did not cook. The host was very responsive and helpful to the problem in the villa.

Not a dislike but just tiny suggestions: Would be great if TV is provided in living room instead of the 2 bedrooms. Not quite sure if we do the waste sorting right, maybe more guidance shall be provided. Not so sure if we can turn on the heater (or where it is) or where we can get thicker blankets for sleeping. There was a night which was extremely cool and it is a bit hard to fall asleep (it was supposed to be warm at the time of our visit).

It’s a great experience to stay in this Hanok. Would have been better if I stay for 2 nights. Everything is ready and prepared, just staying in relaxing here is enough. Lots of cafes, restaurants and boutique shops just at this neighbourhood. Host is very helpful and friendly . Suits family who coming for leisure. Give 10/10.

They should’ve indicated that the toilet was outside, especially when travelers are going there for winter! Imagine having to run out of the toilet as it’s -8 degrees outside each time you use the toilets?!!!! It’s not a pleasant experience at all especially when I have a 6 year old kid travelling with us!! They didn’t provide proper bath towels! They gave us loads of towels but they were hand towels!!! How do you expect to dry yourself after a shower with a hand towel? It wasn’t a comfortable stay at all. We were 4 adults and 1 child. The place was so small, one room had a queen sized proper bed, the other room was equipped with a thin fold out futon and the other adult had to sleep on the sofa.

We loved our stay at Shim San Jae. We enjoyed the traditional style house, and the neighborhood is fabulous. Lots of small shops, bakeries and restaurants, great local market, and even hiking, all within walking distance. And, a little longer walk or bus ride to the center of Seoul, palaces, etc. Friendly, safe neighborhood. The house has everything you need, including kitchen and laundry. Great air conditioning. Kitchen is well equipped. Absolutely no complaints, except that we wished we had booked it for our last few days in Seoul too!

This is not a complaint to the hosts, but a note for foreign travelers to make sure you check your messages for the door code BEFORE you lose internet and phone connection. I didn't, but happily a lovely local lady helped us contact the host for the door code.
