Casa Capanni alla Fila

We loved our stay at Casa Capanni. The facilities were fantastic for a big group and we had the best time.

Lovely family villa with lots of bedrooms, bathrooms, and lounges to accommodate our family trip for 16 people. Centrally located in quiet village near Cortona which allows for easy access to Tuscany and Umbria regions. Caretakers Sonia and Orentino took good care of us (cooked for us one night too) and answered all our questions (via Google Translate). Their warmth, good humour, and kindness really added to our experience. We also appreciated the comforts of home (air conditioning, washer, dryer, multiple fridges, well equipped kitchen) and extra amenities (swimming pool, garden, huge backyard).

Suggest additional equipment such as a barbecue (for Tuscan steaks of course) and fans in the kitchen (to improve air flow).

It was perfect

We stayed at this glorious property for the last week of June. Whilst a little more than I would ordinarily spend, it proved to be worth every penny. The property is located in a small cul-de-sac with ample parking for the car and is just as attractive in real life as it is in the photos. NB those looking to navigate there, putting the name of the property into Google Maps takes you the wrong property, a short distance away from the correct destination. However, doing the same in Apple Maps navigates you to the front of the property without problem. There is a substantial private rear garden with a lovely pool and multiple seating areas which are covered. Internally, the downstairs is spacious, and the huge kitchen is extremely well supplied with all types of cooking utensils. The bedrooms are all large and well separated so that there is no noise transmission between them. Whilst the bedrooms are air-conditioned, the downstairs isn’t. However the downstairs tends to naturally remain quite cool. Sonia and her husband Orentino look after the property. They are lovely people and always willing to help. We employed Sonia to cook a meal for us one evening, which was delightful, and on one occasion when we wanted to go to a local restaurant but were unable to find a local Taxi, Orentino went out of his way to drop us off and collect us. Special mention needs to be made of Elena who is the host for the property. Having stayed at a number of holiday properties over the years, I have never once had a host so engaged in ensuring that their holiday tenants were happy. Any minor issues were dealt with immediately, such as the Internet wireless signal proving unreliable – she had a technician, at the house within an hour, who resolved all issues. Likewise, when I was struggling to book something online, and speaking no Italian, she very kindly phoned the company to facilitate things.

The power was turned off for one day by the power company. The community was aware that it was scheduled but we were not notified. It would have been helpful as that is the day we had planned to do the laundry and stay there for the day.

spacious house, many rooms, many bathrooms, huge yard with pool, well equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, two family rooms - excellent for a large family (multiple couples with kids), Privacy for everyone, yet togetherness is facilitated. Great hub for daily trips in Tuscany - Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano, Sienna, etc.

There is a grill outside but you need to hire someone to operate it for you

It’s a wonderful property that just absorbs people in the best possible way - 9 totally beautiful bedrooms, each with their own character but all with beams, comfy beds and lots of space. The house seems to get bigger as you move through it with very thick walls, which meant that we (with 8 children under 9!) could sleep soundly without being woken by little bambini ! Kitchen is well equipped with two dishwashers - always useful with lots of people. Wifi throughout (including the garden and pool) was seamless, which was another huge bonus. The pool area and garden is stunningly well kept with loads of mature trees and shrubs. And all very safe for children which we loved. The local team were superb and truly helpful from start to finish. This is a real find.
