Lovely setting amongst the vines. Nice wide deck to relax on. Weathered natural timber of the deck and building cladding looked great. Staff were excellent, arranging our lunch and wine tasting on our deck.

The strand board lining (think chipboard) painted black is a bit low rent, although no doubt cost effective. Not what I would expect for the money being charged. The kitchen, bathroom and breakfast provisions were excellent. However the lack of thought into where you put your luggage and clothes was disappointing. Two hooks on the wall for hanging space, and one folding luggage rack - end of story. Living out of your case on the floor is incongruous with the other elements of the package, and this inconvenience dented my sense of value for money.

The closeness of everything. The villas close proximity to the restaurant and bar. The lush grass areas and the beautiful shade trees. The live entertainment was an exceptional bonus. The live music Sam and Luishaan provided just added more to such a pleasurable experience. I loved the way I was greeted and treated by staff. I would return to Matawhero winery only on very special occasion because it is such a special place to be and because the cost of overnight stays is affordable for my family and I for only a few and far between visits.

The bugs that got in through the top window in the shower room because of the light attracting them in. They covered the walls and floor of the shower room. They were harmless but they made a mess of the room. Maybe some flyscreens are needed but they were so tiny they may even get in through the mesh screens. I was hoping for a bath tub because I like to soak.

Clearly a 10. We even extended our stay for one more night as we liked it so much. Comfortable beds and well equipped cabins that offer a lot privacy. Don’t miss out on a wine tasting and the delicious platters. We had one made and had it for Christmas Eve dinner. Friendly stuff, nothing to complain!

The accommodation was so beautiful and comfortable. Staying right in the vineyard was such a treat and the wine tasting was fabulous!
