"Unique and restful, beautiful villa"

9.0

Really exceptional guest villa in a gorgeous location. If I ever write a book I will come stay here to finish it. The house is beautiful with a modern, minimalist finish. The bed is very comfortable, and the shower was really nice (overhead, plenty of water pressure and nice and hot). We really appreciated having access to the well-equipped kitchen and laundry facilities to recharge halfway through our two-week trip and take a break from eating out at every meal. You will need a car to access the property, though the directions from the owners are clear and it's an easy drive from the Hobart airport. Details on the kitchen for those interested: It includes a variety of cutlery, dishes, glasses including wine glasses, pots and pans of various sizes (including nonstick), but also: washing-up supplies, trash bags, paper towels, regular towels, salt and pepper, tin/aluminum foil, knives (somewhat dull (unavoidable in this context) but serviceable including a chef's knife and bread knife), reclosable (ziploc-style and similar) bags and food storage containers. There is a grill, too, with grilling tools! The provided olive oil is fantastic but more sample-size, so you might want to save that for salads or bread and get more cooking oil if needed. A few nespresso-style coffee pods are provided but if you're a coffee drinker bring extra!

These are not so much complaints as things to be aware of, mostly about the bathroom in the main bedroom. There is an en-suite bathroom but just a privacy wall with no door separating it from the sleeping area (sorry I did not take a picture). It's fine for sharing the room with someone you know really well, but depending on your expectations for privacy it could be awkward (there's no line of sight to the toilet until you are walking into the bathroom but sound carries, of course). The shower has wooden slats for a floor, which we liked (feels nice underfoot), and it seemed perfectly clean, but I can imagine it might seem strange to some. Also, it does get a bit chilly in the cooler seasons but the heater in the living room helps a lot (we should have turned it on earlier).
