"Gorgeous, peaceful property in a remote and magestic area of Bali."

10.0

We loved the nostalgic old wooden kampung house, the beautiful pool, the sea views and the staff! We also loved that the Kampung is surrounded by rice paddies. Having breakfast every morning on the large patio while sipping coffee and watching the ocean was a great way to start our day. Private massage can be arranged on the pool deck and evening BBQ's are available at a reasonable extra cost. Arranging transportation was very easy and Ketut and the rest of the staff are lovely and attentive. Water pressure is a big bonus and beds have mozzie nets. The AC is also outstanding. There is an Aldi's down the road (within walking distance) where they sell lots of expat provisions (ie wine, yogurt, jams, fresh baked breads, etc). There are smaller local shops nearby as well.

We loved everything, but if you are not a nature lover, not able to deal with creepy critters, and afraid of remote areas, The Kampung might not be your flavor. One needs a motorcycle to get around in Amed. If you are not comfortable on scooters, Amed is not the place to learn. The roads can be extremely dangerous. Thankfully, Ketut and her staff can arrange transport for you anywhere you need to go. Amed is three hours from Denpasar Airport. Sometimes that can turn into four hours depending on the day of the week and time of year. There are small clinics in the Amed area, but no major hospitals. The roads to and from are windy and highly trafficked by construction trucks. These are not necessarily things that we did not like, but many people may not be aware of the remoteness of this area.

"Beautiful place. Better to visit it during the dry season."

8.0

The Kampung is a lovely small resort. As a family of 4 we had to our exclusive use 2 beautiful old Javanese bungalows, a small but nice swimming pool, a kitchen and relax area. Everything clean and beautiful. The two fantastic ladies who cleaned our bungalows and prepared our breakfast were super nice, caring, and responsive! The rest of the staff was also very nice.

We visited Amed during the rainy season, but we were not expecting to find such a huge amount of plastic waste washed on the beach and in the sea in front of the resort. This is not something the resort can control, but the marine litter really spoiled the experience. Two areas of improvement to be considered by the establishment are: to add ceiling fans in the bungalows, and widen the offer of the breakfast included in the room.

"If you're not into large resorts, you will love Kampung. Clean, well maintained with great staff."

It was a lovely place to stay - quiet and relaxing. Located right on the ocean, going to sleep listening to the waves was lovely. Ketut and her staff were all fabulous.

Our only complaint would have been the lack of insect spray and encouragement to use the mozzie nets.

"Highly recommend staying at The Kampung if visiting Amed. You wont be disappointed."

The location is amazing. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay in this little piece of paradise. The private pool overlooking the ocean was fabulous. Our hosts Ketut and Wayan made a wonderful breakfast each morning, cleaned our villa, and ensured we had all we needed for an enjoyable stay.

"Relaxing holiday in a peaceful oceanfront setting"

9.0

Peaceful private setting, rustic bungalows with comfy beds and nice linen, great open air bathrooms and living spaces with sea views. We spent lots of time relaxing in the super clean pool and well tended garden. The lovely staff - Ketut, Made, Nyoman - were incredibly attentive and friendly and will arrange anything you need - meals, cars, spas, tours, snorkellling gear and boat rides, laundry, all at very affordable rates for Aussie travellers (eg $10 bag of laundry, $7 snorkel hire per day, $30pp 2 hour snorkel trip from the bungalow in a local fishing boat) . Small supermarket and restaurants a 3 minute walk. We loved jumping straight into the crystal clear calm ocean for early morning swims with lots of fish. There are the better known Amed snorkel spots a short car or boat ride away, but there is also a small reef with reasonable coral and lots of fish 200m from the bungalow.

The aircon in the bungalows is very weak despite best attempts by staff to service and replace the AC units during our stay. On a few very hot days this really bothered some of our party who feel the heat. For me, the sea breeze and swims was generally enough to stay comfortable, and the weak AC was just enough to sleep well at night, but if you like afternoon naps in heavily air conditioned rooms this may not be the best choice for you. Also, bring reef shoes or swim sandals to walk across the rocky beach into the water, it’s tough in bare feet.
