In the kitchen, a lit wood-burning stove filled the room with a warm and inviting ambiance as it gently consumed a few wooden bricks. Our breakfast turned into an extended brunch due to bad weather outside.

The house was constructed entirely from wood, and the floor had a noticeable tilt that was perceptible from any spot within. It made me wonder if our house was the exception, with others in the neighborhood having level floors.
