Bramber Cottage Hogsback, Living With Joy!

This was probably the most kitted out self catering accommodation that I have ever stayed in. A very charming cottage indeed. Gloria has gone to tremendous lengths to try think of every item one might need in a little home away from home. The kitchen in particular was very well equipped. The premises were so peaceful and quiet to the point where you could sometimes hear absolutely nothing, interspersed with the odd chirping of birds. This made it very restful and therapeutic- exactly what I needed to unwind and de-stress. Gloria’s two dogs, Mac the Beagle and Jerry the Jack Russell, loved my 2 doggies and we all became firm friends. They loved coming to see me regularly for their pats and sniffs around. Gloria herself is very friendly and informative and gave us regular updates on where to eat, walk and sightsee.

Hogsback can get icy cold at night during the winter, and I found the cottage to be freezing - it was often warmer outside than inside (during the day). There is however a fireplace, and Gloria generously provided abundant free wood to burn, but it took quite a while to warm the cottage, so start your fire early before the night closes in. The electric blankets on the beds were very good, and lifesavers, as were the effective heater lights in the bathroom. I still had to wear several layers inside at night though (when not in bed) to try to keep warm. The only real unfortunate is the hot water in the shower. It does get piping hot, but only if you reduce the hot water tap to a feeble spray/trickle during your shower. The second you try to increase the water pressure, the water gets cold again. Thank goodness for the heater lights in the bathroom. I found taking a shower around midday instead of before bed to be of help with this problem.

Everything we could have needed was provided for in the unit. The view is stunning, the bed and linen perfectly comfortable with electric blankets.

Exceptionally friendly host who went out of her way to help. Large spacious well equipped cottage. Close to town and eating facilities.

Gas shower is tricky to use. Not the easiest to use and could do with more hot water flow.
