The Old Mushroom Farm

The Old Mushroom Farm is easily located on the Karkloof Road and close enough to pop down to Howick when needed, but far enough away to enjoy the countryside feel. The property itself is laid out and kept well. We recieved a lovely welcome from Thabo, who helped us book an extra night while we were there. Prior to our stay we were in communication with Sandy, who was very helpful. Our group if 7 stayed at the RoundHouse, a big charming farm house, which has a rustic feel but all the modern amenities we needed to have an enjoyable stay. It was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We had a lovely view looking out across the fields where the horses are kept. This is the perfect accommodation for 2 families as the bedrooms are in two separate wings of the house. The kids (5 y/o and 7 y/o) loved having the playground and vegetable garden being on almost on our doorstep. There is lots of open space for them to run around in and the property is safe with only one road coming in and out, which is at the opposite side of the outdoor communal areas. Having the artisanal shops and cafés onsite is great, especially when it's rainy or when you don't want to cook. The bakery and bookstore are definite must-visits!

It's not a 'dislike' - but in Flat 1 there's something living in the roof that was very active for a few hours in the night.

We stayed in one of the Boutique Apartments. I loved the architecture and decor. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The shower was also large. The kitchen had everything that we needed. The room was very spacious.

Although there was a freestanding fan, the room was quite hot. We opened the huge windows and that helped a bit. Unfortunately we didn't get one one the apartments with a garden, but next time I will definitely ask for one.
