Jugendherberge Tübingen

Breakfast was bad. Pillows and mattress were terrible. A bit dirty. My friend found a snail in the salad.

The location was great for station access and proximity to the town. Everything was very clean. The terrace area next to the river was a great place for a drink in the evening. The staff on reception were incredibly helpful and sorted out a problem with the room we were allocated. We ended up with a room which had a great view overlooking the river. Breakfast was included and was of a reasonable standard.

I thought I had booked a room with a double bed below and a single above it as per the photo on the web site but we were allocated a standard bunkbed on the street side of the building. As older travellers trying to support YHA/DJH we felt a bit mislead and therefore disappointed (although the excellent staff rectified it for us). The pictures of the rooms should be realistic and perhaps there should be a price differentiation between river view and street view rooms? (We would have been happy to pay more for a river view and the larger bed configuration.) Lack of kitchen was disappointing - quite hard to get a cup of tea or coffee - and it didn't have the friendly social feel that we're used to in UK hostels so we didn't meet any other guests.

Clean and good shower. Affordable.

Quite noisy (paper thin walls). Wouldn’t let us check in later than 22:00 (despite being told on check in that someone was at the desk until 3:00 am). Had to make our own beds.

Good location in the town centre. Great facilities for cyclists including a locked shed to keep bikes overnight. As expected, rooms were basic but fine for 1 night at the price
