Cleanliness

There was no blanket as it was cold.

Lots of space, many beds, easy check-in & out.

There were no hot water in shower.

I spent one night there, together with my dog. The owner was very lovely and welcoming and was showing me around. There is everything you need, kitchen, several bathrooms/showers. The bed was really comfortable. I didnt expect that much for the price but I was very surprised. Its a bit outside of city at the end of the road, so its very quiet and still good to reach from the train station in Valga.

The showers and the table in the kitchen werent the cleanest.

No one else stayed in my 11-bed dorm room, so I slept well.

No information, no communication. It is 100% fine that the hosts do not speak English, I don't expect them to (though the Booking should be fixed since it says they do). But I do not see why there are no signs, no information, nothing written at all. If it's in Estonian, no problem, I have Google translate! Instead, every single thing is unnecessarily confusing - the check-in process, where to go, who works there, where the kitchen is, where you're allowed to go, when they lock the door, how to get back in the building after they lock the door..there are literally no signs explaining anything and the building is a confusing maze and SUPER dark. Also I'm pretty sure it's a health hazard that the hostel kitchen is the same kitchen they use for their bar, but I won't pretend to know Estonian health codes. But seriously give your customers basic information about where things are located and how to come and go from the hostel since you don't give any keys. Also, the bed was not clean at all, I had to use my sleeping liner and pillowcase. Also, overpriced.

Tolli Hostel is a quaint, old-fashioned boarding house in a quiet neighborhood right on the border between Estonia and Latvia. My daughter and I took a two bedroom private room. The host is friendly, the rooms are comfy, and I almost thought we were the only guests because it was so quiet (but the cars out front kept moving, so obviously there were plenty of others coming and going). We took the train from Tartu, then a bus which stops not far from the hostel. You can ride the bus back and forth to the center of town, but it's close enough that we mostly just walked. Valga/Valka is a lovely little town, and it doesn't take long by bus to get to Ērģeme Castle, which is definitely worth seeing.

I wish the lights were a little brighter.
