I find it very difficult to review this. The staff were absolutely lovely as were the other guests. However, I felt very misled by the advertising. It was extremely noisy (I was woken at 4 am by footsteps above my room and as the people upstairs were dancers, I cannot think anything except it has zero sound insulation). I also didn’t realize it would not provide towels. I paid £95 and then was expected to pay £2 for a towel. Breakfast included was rice crispies or oats. Completely misleading advertising. Super disappointing after walking the canals from Halifax and hoping to shower and warm up. I could have had a much nicer room in a hotel not up a massive hill for the same price.

Excellent price for a room sleeping 6. Room was clean and well lit. Facilities were clean. Great place to crash with friends

Shower water pressure was a little weak, not much more than a drizzle. Functional, but only just

Should have brought milk as there wasn’t any, it had run out. The location, if you are not in a car, is difficult and up an extremely steep hill. We were cycling and unfortunately my wife had fractured her foot a week before her visit. Consequently for her we relied on buses (they don’t always come and can be withdrawn for no apparent reason) and Uber (plentiful and cheap) for travel for her into town.

Not keen on the concept of an ‘unmanned’ hostel. At ’unmanned’ reception notices warned you that if you bothered the ‘staff’ for anything that wasn’t an emergency your credit card would would be charged £40. We had been issued with the wrong sheets for one of our rooms and the key to Room 2 operates a very worn and tricky lock. We just made do as the underlying ethos seems to be ‘just lump it’. Room 1 is right opposite the kitchen. Some guests think it is in order to have shouting matches there from 7am onwards. Don’t think this would have happened in a ‘manned’ hostel.

"Very nice"

8.0

It's a lovely hostel attached to a grand chapel, nearby Hebden Bridge's main area. It was clean, and the lady on reception (and dog), were very nice. The room was light and spacious.

What I really didn't bloke was the oddly authoritarian rules and the hefty fines for breaking them, that were sent to me the day before arriving, they put me off the place somewhat. Hebden Bridge is famously laid-back, and it was strange that this was included in the welcome information rather than put elsewhere.
