New Citadel Hostel

The volunteers were great. The location in Old City Jerusalem is amazing. The view from the roof was wonderful.

The hostel is in great need of repair/ updates in multiple ways. For example, the kitchen skillet was broken and duct taped in the middle. The women's bunk bed had vertical ladders and no guardrails... Simple things all over the place that just need some attention. You can tell that it hasn't been taken care of in a while. If you are using the shared bathroom to shower, there is no door on the bathroom. So you have to do all of your dressing and undressing and showering inside the shower stall inside of a bathroom that has no door.

Great rooftop views, excellent location.

The space feels dark and cramped, and could use some sprucing up, particularly the kitchen. For a hostel its fine.

An 800 year old building, inside the Old City with rooftop patio that provided a 360° view. About a 3 minute walk from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and about an 8 minute walk to the Wailing Wall. Our room had a bed, a small table, small refrigerator and a cabinet with a few shelves where we could hang clothes. It was great fun! We loved exploring the city for 6 days from this location.

My wife and I are both senior citizens, so some of our concerns were due to our age. Inside our room we had (what I believe we was) the only private bathroom. But to have it meant our room was on the 4th floor. Going up and down the stairs was a concern, especially with luggage, but the staff helped us. The private bath was very small, but it was private.

Good AC, clean, comfortable bed, great views, great location. Fantastic old building (700 yrs old? Classic Mamluk architecture)

The bathrooms were co-ed and very open (little privacy), kitchen wares were worn and/or broken, blanket for twin bed was almost too small to cover the body at night but did hold body heat, you have to pay for the staff to do your laundry without other options available. Stairs: 30 steps up to the kitchen from the reception. Voices really carry,

Certainly, the rooftop terrace is the highlight

After I had pleasurable experiences in 2024, this time staff was not professional nor friendly. He had to ask superiors for every detail of practical life, e.g. if the top roo is available that I asked for when reserving (it wasnt) or where the key is (found at the 3rd attempt, after asking repeatedly - should be clear anyhow given the rice for a moderately cared-for room). Genneral leve of friwndliness is close to zero, as often im Israel, but seemingly personsbdo not even notice this Overall, I recommend better training for staff.
