"Such a special place to stay … magical!"

Absolutely beautiful and special place to stay while visiting Port Fairy … everything is selected carefully and it is a unique and memorable home away from home. Loved the dog and thank you for the advice on where to go and what to eat!

No toiletries in the shower provided … also bath mats would be nice!

Cute aesthetic and vibe

It was extremely cold and cold draughts entering the room everywhere. The walls were very thin and could hear talking and screaming from the room next door in the early hours of the morning. The power points including hot water in the room stopped working and no answer from text msgs from host. Went without showers.

I always mean to write reviews of where I've stayed, but normally forget. However I had to for The Wandering Whale, as it was so brilliant! Jess sent me lots of information in advance, including things to do and places to eat. It was probably the most thorough, useful, and friendly pre-stay communication I've had with anywhere I've stayed. When I arrived, I found I'd been given a complimentary room upgrade :) I loved this hostel: exactly like the YHAs I stayed in as a child (a compliment!). Cosy, warm, welcoming, it felt like a real home that was full of character. It was clearly run by people who backpacked, and understood what was actually needed: from a well-stocked kitchen with free tea, coffee and sugar, to a chill out corner for kids with toys, colouring stuff, and games.

I only wish I'd stayed longer! Port Fairy is an awesome town and I could happily have spent a few days exploring it and the surrounding areas. Even in winter it was gorgeous!

"Social; a great place to spend relaxing time chatting with other travellers from all walks of life."

There's a wonderfully comfortable sense of being at home at the guesthouse. Decor is quirky and interesting, attention to detail is event everywhere from the gorgeous vases of fresh flowers to the carefully chosen cosy crochet rugs and comfy cushions.
