"Superb"

9.0

The people that worked there are so helpful & friendly. They really go above and beyond to make sure you are happy and help you organize activities for the day and transport around the Island. It was super beautiful and I would definitely recommend this spot! Special mention to Juliet for being amazing & so lovely! The location is also a 5 minute walk to a beautiful local beach! Overall, super happy:)

"Wonderful hostel and staff though."

8.0

The property itself is peaceful and quiet. The staff are great, friendly and helpful. The location is within walking distance of two beaches and a short 13 minute tricycle to Alona Beach. Amenities (shower) similar to camping where they are located outside and down the stairs from the dorm.

I have nowhere to leave a review of my experience regarding the tour booked through the hostel so I’m forced to leave one here. The below also provides how the complaint was handled. There were several issues that impacted the quality of the tour: - I was given the option to choose either the ATV ride or the Chocolate Hills viewing deck. I specifically chose the viewing deck because I was told the ATV wouldn’t provide the full view. However, two tour participants who chose the ATV were later allowed to also visit the viewing deck. This was not communicated as a possibility to me, and had I known both could be done, I would have chosen differently. - We were told to meet back at 11:30am for the driver to pick us up after visiting the hills, but we ended up waiting until 12:20pm to depart. Much of this delay was spent waiting for the ATV group, who were picked up first and taken to the viewing deck afterward—something we had already done. This timecreated unnecessary downtime and confusion. - The advertised cost of the ATV activity was P1100, but the actual price at the site was P1400. This discrepancy should be corrected for future travellers. - At the Tarsier Sanctuary, the driver initially said entrance was not included and that we had to pay P170. It was only after questioning him post-visit that he returned the money. If it’s standard practice for guests to pay and then be reimbursed, that needs to be explained clearly in advance. The lack of communication caused confusion among several travellers. - We did not arrive to the floating restaurant until 2:30pm well past a reasonable lunch time and in fact when some of the restaurants closed. When we arrived, there were not many alternative options provided outside of 7/11 for those who opted out of the river cruise at Rio Verde. - Lastly, at multiple stops, there were no clear instructions on where to meet the driver. This added stress and disorganisation to the experience.

"Great place ! (But not very social)"

8.0

Nice and clean, dorms were comfortable and great having the pool. Not very social though as solo traveller is more of a hotel vibe so think more couples or friends. Restaurant also pricey so better to eat out imo! Other than that great, showers were best pressure I’d had in the Philippines (cold though ofcourse).

"Very mediocre"

6.0

The pool was really nice, but there was no atmosphere or ability to engage with other people unless you met them in your room.

There were local people staying in the room who were absolutely horrible to room with. They took extra pillows off other people’s beds so they did not have any when they came in, threw all the lights on in the middle of the night and just had no awareness of appropriate hostel behaviour. The property food was also terrible, super expensive for absolutely nothing.

"Brilliant stay, would stay again!"

9.0

We really enjoyed our stay here!! There is definitely more of a hotel than a hostel feel to Red Picnic. The hostel is very calm and quiet with a lovely swimming pool and surrounding areas of trees/green. There is a restaurant on site which served good food and was handy to have as there isn’t much in walking distance, however there are lots of good food options in Alona just a 10 minute drive away! You could also walk down to the beach nice and easy in under 15 minutes! We really enjoyed our stay here, it was away from the busy area of Alona, however close enough that we could still enjoy the liveliness if we wanted too. All the staff was helpful and friendly too!

Restaurant was a little expensive for what you got.
